404 error in SSL Admin login

Sorry for the new thread, but I couldn't find this question elsewhere. I am also a zen newbie too, so that doesn't help!

When I set my configure.php file to define('ENABLE_SSL_ADMIN', 'true'); , I can get to the log in page for admin, but after clicking the login button, I get a 404 error.

When the option is set to false, I get right into the admin, but not on the https server of course.

I have uploaded a complete duplicate copy of my zen cart to the https server, still with no luck.

I can login securely as a customer, and purchase items and complete checkout. But, whenever I am on a secure page, the links to the images are broken.

With these type issues it is best to first talk with your Hoster. As they are the ones who setup the Cert, they are in the best position to give you the correct path required and to make sure the Cert is working as it should.

I have been in touch with the host a bit, and it does seem that most things on the cert are working. At least those that I know to look for.

I have uploaded these test images to the https server, just to see if I can get to all the directories. No problem.

When I go to the admin login page, it is on the https server. but when I press login, I get the 404 error.

Another thing is that when I enter an incorrect password, or username, I also get the 404 error, instead of being redirected to the login error page as should be the case.

If this is a hosting problem, or probably a hosting problem, can you give me some ideas as to what questions I should ask them? Sometimes them seem as clueless as I am. :blink:

Although the above URL works as it should, when your Home page is viewed using 'https' your images do not show and they should; since the work fine if using 'http'.

This tells us that your SSL section is Hosted elsewhere on the Server and you need to find out 'where' from your Hoster. Then use the correct path within your ZC 'config' files.

I am currently on hold with the host company, but I did figure out one thing. When you upload images in the products add area of the admin, it uploads them to the server, but I end up not having a copy to upload to the

Ok, one thing I didn't do was copy the new product thumb images that were uploaded from the admin while I was working with it on the http server. I have uploaded those images to the https area, and that solved the missing pictures problem, but I still can't access the admin area. Going to ask the host about that... when they answer the phone!

A question that comes to mind from this is if it's always necessary to duplicate everything from the http: server, and then upload it to the https server? (At least the updated images folder)

It seems that having to do this every time a new product is added or updated is a bit cumbersome, and prone for errors. Is this actually how folks are doing it, or am I confused?

OK, I have some joy. :-) While contacting my host, and talking with the semi clueless tech there, I began thinking about the missing pics. After confirming that the address location was already correct, I then decided to re-download the entire http: version of my zen cart, just in case there were other files that had snuck in there during the install. Apparently there were, because after I loaded the files back to the https: server, my admin magically appeared! Yeah!

I am still curious about the duplicity of having to maintain two sets of files. One on the http server, and one on the https server. Does anyone have an answer, or can direct me to the answer?

PS - I also think that I found a tiny bug in the code. I will post the details in the bugs forum area.

The Control Panel provided by your Hoster, is it called Plesk?

If yes, there are some options to avoid duplicity. Search this Forum using 'Plesk' and you should come up with some helpful threads.

Thank you much for the direction. I am finding out right now if my host has plesk, (or cpanel as researched by your suggestion). Your information will either make my life easier in the short run, or make it slightly more complicated during the time it takes my to dump my current host. (Basically the straw basket is almost full, and this could very well be the last one! :-)
