Now what?!?!?!

So I was having a variety of issues getting Zen Cart installed on our Solaris server, and finally thought I had everything figured out. I decided to install again from scratch, since I knew I had fixed all of the problems.

Now, when I try to install, it gets to the point that the tildes are expanding across the screen during the installation, but then I get a white page that just says, "Unable to connect to database."

I can connect to the database on the unix command line using the username and password that I specified during the installation process. I created a little PHP webpage that connects successfully to the database using the same username and password and retrieves a row.

What could the problem possibly be? I looked at the two configure.php files, and they both appear to have the database info correct.

Help!

Pretty please.

Re: Now what?!?!?!

To expand upon my own post a bit, during the installation process, the installer apparently is able to connect to the database, because it does create all of the Zen Cart tables within it. But for whatever reason, when it gets to the point where it wants to display the page:

zc_install/index.php?main_page=store_setup&language=english

it gives me the error about not being able to connect to the database.

Re: Now what?!?!?!

No ideas, huh?

Is there any way to find out more about what the error is? I'm comfortable with MySQL, but by no means a whiz. Is there a MySQL log that might provide more info? I will check the Apache log. What about a Zen Cart installation log that might have info?

I don't know what to look into next, so any help would be appreciated.

That page uses the data in the configure.php files to connect to the database. If the files weren't written successfully or the data in them is otherwise incomplete, you could experience the error message you reported.

What happens if you try going to the storefront directly, and bypass the rest of the installation script, at least temporarily?

Re: Now what?!?!?!

DrByte,

Thanks for the response.

As far as I can tell, the configure.php files look the way they should. I even restored a configure.php from a ZenCArt install that I had working late last week, and it looks essentially the same.

I tried going directly to the storefront, as you suggested, but I may not have done it correctly. My directory structure is: /dir1/dir2/webstore/all_the _zen_cart_files_and_folders/zc_install

So, to launch the store directly, I entered:

/dir1/dir2/webstore/index.php

It just brought up the main installer screen.

Any thoughts?

Re: Now what?!?!?!

Huh?

if you have:
/dir1/dir2/webstore/all_the _zen_cart_files_and_folders/zc_install

Then your cart should be in /dir1/dir2/webstore/all_the _zen_cart_files_and_folders/index.php

(The install folder is located in the same folder with the main index.php file)

I no longer provide installation support on forum for all my modules. However, if there are real bugs with the modules please feel free to contact me

dsdavis:

It just brought up the main installer screen. That means it cannot read the /includes/configure.php file or its contents are just the sample defaults.

Or it could mean that the permissions on the configure.php file are too high or too low according to your server's security, and thus it's being denied access.

What are the permissions on your configure.php files when this happens?
