Update currencies and Check for updates not working.....

Up until a few days ago, my update currencies and Check for updates button worked, it would connect to the server and update. Now, when I try to click on these buttons I get the error

"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:
Diagnose Connection Problems

 More information"

I am running 1.3.7, checked witha pal on same server running 1.3.8 I am assuming maybe its server upgrade problem but I havent a clue as to how to test etc.

ANy suggestions???

Re: Update currencies and Check for updates not working.....

The currency-update and version-check both use the php file() command to access external resources to obtain information. Some servers block that. The latest Zen Cart version uses CURL to do the currency-update if the file() method fails. The version-check will just fail (fixed in the upcoming v1.4).
So, if your hosting server administrator has changed server security to disallow use of php file() function to talk to external addresses (setting: allow_url_fopen), then you'll not be able to use that method.

I don't understand the following statement:> caradelrae:
