free shipping

I have a client that wants free shipping on a specific item over 500 units of this item. The problem is, whenever any other item is over 500 units, free shipping appears for this as well. How could I disable this for the other products? I have read through the forums and haven't found anything this specific on the module.

Simplest way I can think of would be to use quantity discounts and make the 500+ discount enough to cover the shipping charge. Explain in the product description section that the 500+ quantity discount is set to essentially provide free shipping.

More complicated would be to set up 2 product pages, one for 1-499 quantity that would not be free shipping, one for 500+ that would have free shipping checked. (You would set maximum on the first product page to 499, then minimum on the second product page to 500.)

Thanks for the advice. I don't know if those will work for this client, though - he wants what he wants. I am going to try to add a checkbox to the product listing and then check for the presence of this to enable free shipping or not. Some programming, but what the heck?

I think zen cart is fine, but not very user friendly when it comes to shipping. Why would you create a freeshipping module and not be able to enable it by the options you want and then only enable that for the products you want. It seems like to me that the developer of this module went 90% with it and then left the last 10% undone.

I'm hesitant to go in an add / modify code I'm not totally familiar with, too.
