Developing a seller's marketplace with Zen Cart?

I am looking to develop a shop that allows content providers to sell their work through a kind of marketplace setup. I've looked through osCommerce and Zen Cart docs and contribs and haven't found anything specifically built for what I envision, so I wonder if someone could let me know if this idea is feasible and what might be involved... there are a few major components:

  1. the ability to specify individual user accounts as content owners for specific items sold in the shop.
  2. wholesale prices for content owners, again tied between specific user accounts and items. (I've seen wholesale systems but they seem to involve setting a discount on ALL items, not specific ones.)
  3. automatic credit deposited in the account of content owners when their associated products sell... perhaps delayed a week to account for returns or other such things.
  4. automatic pay-outs to content owners with a store credit balance over $x.
  5. multi-vendor shipping in this mix. (I know MVS is possible, just making sure its on the radar here.)

Essentially I would like for content owners to be able to log in, hit a control panel, and send themselves a payment via paypal whenever they want to cash out... that would be optimal, but I don't need all these things to work necessarily. I'm mainly interested in finding out what might be easy (for example, through the use or modification of existing contribs I haven't noticed), and what might be hard--or downright impossible. The automatic payments might be a no go, for example... but I sense that hooking wholesaler functionality to individual items shouldn't be such a stretch. From there, would a balance sheet of earnings be so tough? Well, just thinking aloud, as it were...

So, can Zen Cart do anything like this?

Short answer? No, not out of the box, but if you are inclined to writing additional code it could be done.

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

Re: Developing a seller's marketplace with Zen Cart?

I should probably mention I do code in PHP to some extent... and I've been able to monkey around with Wordpress to get it to do some of the custom stuff I wanted to do with it... but of course, always prefer to work with something already available (even if it need some tinkering). Are there any starting places for this stuff or would it all need to be from scratch?
