Will adding modules mess up my custom theme?

Hi,

Had a developer customize my Zencart theme... see http://www.vintagelimited.com/store/

Wanted to know if I add a few modules for reporting functions if they would mess up my theme? I could pay the dude who did it... not a problem... but if I can do it myself which seams to be as easy as uploading some files or overwriting a few... then I could save his time and mine.

Appreciate the input in advance.

Here's the module I'd like to install... the couple I'm questioning.

#1. Checkout without Account:

#2. Super Orders:
http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&cPath=40_41&products_id=257

#3. Advanced Stats:
http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&cPath=40_41&products_id=701

#4. Quickbooks Import QBI:
http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&cPath=40_41&products_id=144

BTW running Zen-cart version 1.3.7 and would like to upgrade to version 1.3.8 and again looks like I just need to update some files on the server but will that mess up my custom theme? Is it something I can do myself?

Thanks.

Shaun

Re: Will adding modules mess up my custom theme?

You should be able to do all of this yourself. If your template/theme is set up correctly, the files involved should be in their own folders which will protect them during an upgrade. You can then compare those files with the current version using something like WinMerge and be able to update your template to match 1.3.8a.

The modules shouldn't interfere with the look of your site.

Make sure you backup everything before attempting an upgrade or adding modules.

Re: Will adding modules mess up my custom theme?

I actually just read a few of the read me's and looks like there is some modifying needed on some of the PHP files... I don't think I feel comfortable doing that part.

Also, I'm on a Mac not a PC so I don't think I could use that WinMerge?

No idea if the theme is done like it needs to be so stuff doesn't get jacked up... but hopefully so. ;)

DiffMerge is cross-platform (and free).
