Do I need 'permissions' to change logo?

I've located the logo but can't edit it, or create a new one and save as same name.

Is there a facilities to change the permission allowing me to do so?

Re: Do I need 'permissions' to change logo?

Peewhy;

I assume you are talking about the header logo. You may want to check the read / write permissions on your folder. During the installation of Zen Cart it told you what files / folders needed to be changed and to what permissions. If you still have the full install folder on your computer or uploaded the docs folder to your site it contains a document called 1.readme_installation.html which tells you which files and folders to modify.

Also if (you should be) using the override system and then the file would end up in your includes/templates/your_template_name/images/image.***

I would start there and see if that solves your problem.

Good Luck :D

Re: Do I need 'permissions' to change logo?

Thanks for that.

Sadly I haven't a clue about the installation, it was done for me.

Using my graphics editor, I've followed the route to the image but ip simply won't open.

I am not aware whether this is the 'override' system...don't you love newbies?

If your permissions are set correctly, there shouldn't be any problems. But of course, as with ANY files, there can NEVER be 2 files in the same folder with the EXACT same name. They must be slightly different. Just delete or rename the logo.gif (to logo2.gif) that's there now, and insert your new logo.gif.

Also, like obe1 said, if your going to be changing the design of your template, you should ALWAYS use the override instructions to help you create your own overrides.

Check permissions. Make SURE that they're NOT Read Only. Is this a "Live" site?

Re: Do I need 'permissions' to change logo?

It is a live site - how do I check permissions to see if they are read only?

Use your hosts Admin Panel, or FTP program......I'm assuming you DO have FTP access?

Look for CHMOD. Click HERE for explanation.

Re: Do I need 'permissions' to change logo?

Hello

Thanks for that, it would appear that the 'read. write & execute' are all ticked ...so it isn't a permissions issue?

Would there be another reason why I can't edit the header logo?

Re: Do I need 'permissions' to change logo?

Since it's a "Live" site, just delete or rename logo.gif (as mentioned earlier) with your CuteFTP, then you'll have to upload your new logo.gif to your server.

Re: Do I need 'permissions' to change logo?

What folder are you trying to load the image into (specific path please). Also please post a URL.

Are you using Firefox or IE when viewing pages. I HIGHLY recommend using Firefox and then download and install the web developer plugin:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/60

and get fireftp while you are at it:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/684

I have long since kicked cuteftp to the curb as I have always had problems one way or another. With these two tools (listed above) I have saved TONS of development time once you learn to use them properly, which is even easy for a "newbie" :D (trust me I taught my wife the same way with the same tools and she now takes care of my "light" work).

Hope this helps some, but again, please post us a URL to look at.

Thanks...

Re: Do I need 'permissions' to change logo?

Well, I wasn't going to get started on CuteFTP, but since it's been mentioned.........yes.........throw that junk into your recycle bin. It WILL stop responding during large transfers.......it WILL corrupt several files on large transfers, if it does make it through.......it WILL make you pull your hair out trying to figure out why your Zen-Cart doesn't work anymore after uploading (now corrupted) files to your server........Ahhhh, o.k., I'll shut up, now.

Thanks for reminding me of the bad times when I was a newbie, obe1 :D. But with my memory, I'm glad to remember anything that far back.

Thanks peewhy. It's always nice to wake up, and almost instantly get a smile put on my face.
