Adding categories after products?

Hi,
I'm not sure why this isn't a feature, but was hoping I was missing something.

We have one Main category with with several dozen products in it. The company now wants to add subcategories to the Main Category and move these products into subcategories....is this possible without tearing down the whole Main category and starting over????

Thanks in advance!

Re: Adding categories after products?

No, you can't put subcategories in that main cat while it has products.

What you can do is create a temporary top category (equal with Main) and move your products to that. Then you should be able to put subcats in Main and move the products back into those subcats. You won't need to delete and re-enter your products.

Or, you could create the entire new top/subcat structure with the names you want without touching your current Main, move the products into that, delete the current Main and use the new top cat as Main.

Re: Adding categories after products?

St,
You half to create a new main category called Anything
Then, move your products from the (main category) to this Anything category.
Do not use the copy feature, use the move
Then, you can add as many sub-categories to your only one (main category)
Then, move your products from (Anything) to the individual sub-categories you have just created:smile:
