Re: changing product layout, need to display 4 column

Hello
I found this and installed as directed

Column Layout / Grid Layout for Products Listing (Add On Module for Zen Cart v1.3.8)

NOTE: This module is updated for Zen Cart 1.3.8, therefore for older version of Zen Cart (prior to v1.3.5)
you must still use the earlier version of the module. This module and instructions are exclusive to new version of Zen Cart.
This will work both for upgrades as well as for fresh installs.

IF YOU ARE UPGRADING, you do not need to run the SQL file if your site already has the 2 options for configuring the
column-layout mod in the Admin->Configuration->Product Listing screen.

QUICK INSTALL:
(1) Copy the product_listing.php module file into the includes/modules/YOURTEMPLATE folder in your shop;
(2) Copy the template file to your custom templates folder,
(3) and run the SQL file.
More details below...

Description:

The default listing of products as per the Zen Cart code is - one product per row (we call it row-wise).
Very often, it is visually more appealing and useful to have the products listed in a Grid / Matrix or Tabular Style i.e.
multiple rows and within each row multiple columns, thus forming a Grid or Tabular layout. This module has been developed to achieve this goal.

How this add-on module is implemented:

In the instructions below, I assume that your Zen Cart home directory - where the root of the Zen Cart files is,
represented by symbol ZEN_CART_HOME_DIR, and YOUR_TEMPLATE is to be replaced by the name of your customized template.

Three things are to be done -
(1) The module overrides just one file in the system - the file modified is ZEN_CART_HOME_DIR/includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/product_listing.php

(2) The template overrides just one file in the system - the file modified is ZEN_CART_HOME_DIR/includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_modules_product_listing.php

(3) The configuration table in the database is also modified to allow for choice and num of columns and therefore a couple of rows are added.
See details below.

Detailed Instructions:

==== BACKUP your files and database before making any changes ==========

STEP 1. Modification of Code
Updated code files are included - so the task is simple.

  • Upload the new product_listing.php to ZEN_CART_HOME_DIR/includes/modules/YOURTEMPLATE/product_listing.php
  • Upload the new tpl_modules_product_listing.php to:
    ZEN_CART_HOME_DIR/includes/templates/YOURTEMPLATE/templates/tpl_modules_product_listing.php

STEP 2. Changing the Database

Run the following SQL commands into your database.
The easiest way is to open Admin->Tools->Install SQL Patch and paste them in the box and click Send.
(These same commands are in the enclosed column_layout_grid.sql file, for convenience.)

INSERT INTO configuration (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value,
configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order,
last_modified, date_added, use_function, set_function)
VALUES ('Product Listing - Layout Style', 'PRODUCT_LISTING_LAYOUT_STYLE', 'rows',
'Select the layout style:<br />Each product can be listed in its own row (rows option)
or products can be listed in multiple columns per row (columns option)', '8', '40', NULL,
now(), NULL, 'zen_cfg_select_option(array('rows', 'columns'),');

INSERT INTO configuration (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value,
configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order,
last_modified, date_added, use_function, set_function)
VALUES ('Product Listing - Columns Per Row', 'PRODUCT_LISTING_COLUMNS_PER_ROW', '3',
'Select the number of columns of products to show in each row in the product listing.
The default setting is 3.', '8', '41', NULL, now(), NULL, NULL);

STEP 3. Configuration

Open up the admin section of your running cart in your browser
Go to Admin -> Configuration -> Product Listing.

Set the following settings:

A. Product Listing - Layout Style
Set the type of layout you want to use. By default, the current Zen Cart layout will be used.
It is called "rows". If you want to use the column and row layout, choose "columns".

B. Product Listing - Columns Per Row
If you choose to use the column layout, type in the number of columns you want to show on each row.
The default is 3 columns.

Good Luck!

Re: changing product layout, need to display 4 column

We need a link to your site to see exactly what your output is doing and check your stylesheet. Then maybe we will be able to tell what is wrong, or maybe we will need to see the contents of some other files... hard to tell at this point.

Re: changing product layout, need to display 4 column

First of all! I recommend you backup your database.

Next Run the SQL Query
Run the following SQL commands into your database.
The easiest way is to open Admin->Tools->Install SQL Patch and paste them in the box and click Send.
(These same commands are in the enclosed column_layout_grid.sql file, for convenience.)

INSERT INTO configuration (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value,
configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order,
last_modified, date_added, use_function, set_function)
VALUES ('Product Listing - Layout Style', 'PRODUCT_LISTING_LAYOUT_STYLE', 'rows',
'Select the layout style:<br />Each product can be listed in its own row (rows option)
or products can be listed in multiple columns per row (columns option)', '8', '40', NULL,
now(), NULL, 'zen_cfg_select_option(array('rows', 'columns'),');

INSERT INTO configuration (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value,
configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order,
last_modified, date_added, use_function, set_function)
VALUES ('Product Listing - Columns Per Row', 'PRODUCT_LISTING_COLUMNS_PER_ROW', '3',
'Select the number of columns of products to show in each row in the product listing.
The default setting is 3.', '8', '41', NULL, now(), NULL, NULL);

Next Download the cherry_zen template.

Save a backup copy of your includes/templates/tpl_modules_product_listing.php

Next Overwrite old tpl_modules_product_listing.php with file in the cherry_zen install folder.

Next Backup your product_listing.php as found in the includes/module folder

Then overwirte with product_listing.php found in cherry_zen template module folder.

Then you can log back into you admin console.

Configuration-> Product Listing-> Product Listing - Layout Style

Finally change from default rows to columns
:lookaroun

Cheers,

Re: changing product layout, need to display 4 column

You don't need to use any special template versions of these files to get the functionality. The Column Grid mod files uploaded correctly will do the job exactly right.

Also, you should never modify the core or /template_default/ copies of files; you should always make a copy in a /your_template/ folder and edit that. This assumes you have made a custom template, even if it is just a clone of /classic/.

The SQL patch has already been run, or he wouldn't be seeing the option for columns/rows mode.

Re: changing product layout, need to display 4 column

I know this might seem silly but I've just downloaded this mod & cant extract it.
Although I can browse the zipped file, when I click on extract and it extracts it says the folder is empty, any ideas.
Bloody vista.

Re: changing product layout, need to display 4 column

What are you using to try to unzip it?
You might try 7zip (free from https://www.sourceforge.net ) if you are having problems with a MS/windows app.

Re: changing product layout, need to display 4 column

To the original poster -

As Glenn said, we'll need a link to your site.

Did you rename the YOUR_TEMPLATE folders in the mod to the name of your custom template (or Classic, as the case may be) ?

Re: changing product layout, need to display 4 column

hi guys, help please. I want to use the column layout grid add on for my website. https://www.gadgetboyonline.com but the problem is I can't find the files like the product_listing.php and the tpl_modules_product_listing.php. From the directions, I will see these files here :

  • Upload the new product_listing.php to ZEN_CART_HOME_DIR/includes/modules/YOURTEMPLATE/product_listing.php
  • Upload the new tpl_modules_product_listing.php to:
    ZEN_CART_HOME_DIR/includes/templates/YOURTEMPLATE/templates/tpl_modules_product_listing.php

but the problem is from the template that I downloaded, which is the Mistik Template, there are no files such as product_listing.php and tpl_modules_product_listing.php. so where will I put these files that I get from the COLUMN LAY OUT GRID ADD ON?

Re: changing product layout, need to display 4 column

Those files and perhaps the subfolders do not yet exist in your custom template; you will upload the mod files to become the filepaths described. So put product_listing.php in
/includes/modules/mistik/
and put tpl_modules_product_listing.php in
/includes/templates/mistik/templates/.

You should be able to change the mod folders on your pc from /YOURTEMPLATE/ to /mistik/, and just upload the whole mod /includes/ folder to the Zen Cart root on your server; then the subfolders and files will drop into place automatically.

Not exactly, but see yellow1912's thread "using one single listing template" for a mod/procedure to harmonize listings.

Re: changing product layout, need to display 4 column

Hi everyone,

Just started designing Zen Cart site for an ongoing business, and love this site, thanks for all the help.

The question I have is, I am installing this mod into the site, and have implemented a template, but not sure if I am going to use that one yet. Of all files in YOUR_TEMPLATE folders, should i install them into all the templates I have, and if I change templates, will these features not be there anymore?

Thanks

Re: changing product layout, need to display 4 column

The Column Grid mod will only be available to templates where you install it. You would need a separate set of the mod files in each template.
