How do I change catagory layout?

I have setup a couple of catagories on my site so far and added products to them, I want to move the catagories to the left side of my page in a menu instead of the top under the header. Where is the setting located for this? I have looked through the admin module, and thought it also might be in the css sheet, but can't seem to locate it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

In admin > Tools > Layout Boxes Controller, turn on the categories sidebox for the left column and give it the sort order you want.

In Configuration > Layout Settings, turn off Categories-Tabs Menu.
