Flat Rate Shipping On Only One Product In Store

I have one product only that I need to have flat rate shipping for. How do I set this up, and how would this work if a customer purchases a flat rate item, and an item that is not flat rate in my store? I am a dummy, and do not know HTML or programming. I would need it explained to me in VERY simple instructions! Please!

And when I come in and order a dozen other products ... and then order this 1 monster product ... what is "suppose to happen" to shipping?

ok... and I am supposed to understand what? As I have said, I do not understand everything. I've purchased the zen book a while ago, but cannot seem to find the answer there either. Honestly, your response makes no sense (at least to me), and seems a tad sarcastic to those that are trying to learn and understand. I suppose its pitiful that everyone that has chosen to utilize zen are not rocket scientists, but isn't this forum here to help the rest of us "less educated" in the "art of zen" understand it more?

Hi juliartz, I think you've misunderstood Ajeh.

She normally asks such questions to help us think through our own questions and help herself understand your question better. In fact, I've personally seen her asking herself such questions while thinking through some coding problems too.

Ok, with regards to your question. Currently, Zen Cart does not offer per-product shipping option.

So if you have only flat rate shipping option set up, then customers checking out with whatever number of items will only see that shipping option.

Since you have the book, you can turn to pg 123 for more information on setting up the Flat Rate shipping module.

First, I would like to apologize to Ajeh if I did misunderstand her response, but when you are a total dummy in these things, and you've searched and searched to no avail, frustration usually dictates a response when it appears to be a sarcastic one. That is how I read it.
Second~ so to understand you correctly, are you saying that I CANNOT have different shipping methods set up? I can choose only one? So that would also mean that if I had a normal shipping method set up by lets say weight, then I could not also have shipping set up for one item as free? The item in question are bookmarks that I make, and even using the weight to ship these, calculate way too high. So on this one item only, I need to either have it set up as a flat rate or free then, and I would build shipping into the price. If I can't do either, then how do I set it up by weight that won't put a laminated bookmark with shipping that equals the bookmark price itself? This is where the frustration come in.

If you mark the Products for Always Free Shipping all you need to do is setup in the Shipping/Packaging that 0 weight means Free Shipping and install the Free Shipping freeshipper shipping modules to that when only the bookmarks are in the cart that the Free Shipping can happen ...

You can also customize shipping for just about anything ... it just depends on how well you like to code ...

 You ARE kidding, right? Code? That was the best laugh I've had all day! I couldn't code if my life depended on it! Dumb *ss here!

But... say they buy a few bookmarks (with the free shipping) and the blank note cards (no free shipping) at the same time. Will the free shipping still apply/work?

Re: Flat Rate Shipping On Only One Product In Store

If I had 10 things with Free Shipping or 0 weight and added it to 1 thing with a $5.00 charge for shipping or 1 lb weight and got a quote from UPS ...

1lb + (10 * 0) = 1lb

$5.00 + (10 * 0) = $5.00

It isn't going to add anything to the charge as there is nothing to add ...

Always Free Shipping marks a product to not be included in shipping charges for weight or price or item count ...

0 weight is not going to affect shipping modules based on weight ...

Re: Flat Rate Shipping On Only One Product In Store

The problem I have is I want to charge $125 for ground shipping to the 48 Continental States on a couple products. The rest of the products will be based off of weight and use the UPS and Fedex Modules. I have tried messing with the weights of the product and also with the tare, but when I go over 75 pounds, the FedEx ground will not show up.

Re: Flat Rate Shipping On Only One Product In Store

You have to define what happens with

1 Product for the $125 shipping charge is in the cart with 1 or more other Products not at this charge?

2 or more Product for the $125 shipping charge is in the cart?

2 or more Product for the $125 shipping charge is in the cart with 1 or more other Products not at this charge?

Ajeh:

I would like to have the $125 plus whatever the weight based charge would be for the other items.
Ajeh:

2 or more Product for the $125 shipping charge is in the cart?
I would like the amount to double for 2 items, triple for 3, etc.
Ajeh:

2 or more Product for the $125 shipping charge is in the cart with
1 or more other Products not at this charge?
I would multiply the number of the product by 125 and then add the weight based amount of the other items?

Of course there may be an easier way?

Re: Flat Rate Shipping On Only One Product In Store

UPS and FedEx are realtime quotes ...

You would need a method of flagging these products for the $125.00 shipping per item quantity so that the UPS and/or FedEx can be calculated then have this additional charge of 125.00 * quantity ...

Is there anything about these Products that already has them flagged as $125.00 shipping?

Do any of your existing Products have 0 weight?

There has to be something that can be counted, like a flag on an existing field or the addition of a new field to designate which products these are ...

Once it can be identified as how many are in the cart, the UPS or FedEx shipping modules could be customized to add on this additional charge ...

Re: Flat Rate Shipping On Only One Product In Store

Thanks Linda, I think I see what you mean. There is nothing now that has them flagged for $125 shipping. Nothing in the store has 0 wieight right now. So I need to make these 0 lbs and then customize the fed ex module to add 125 to product that is 0 lbs and multiply by the quantity? If there is other items they would still get the realtime quote and then this would be added?

I understand the concept, but customizing that code... :shocking:

Re: Flat Rate Shipping On Only One Product In Store

That should be able to work ... I have not tested this so I don't know off the top of my head the tweaks to be made ...

One thing you might try, to make this less code, is say that the 0 weight does mean Free Shipping ... then set the handling to 125, if that works and is the only shipping module that shows, you could customize it to multiple the quantity by the handling and use the Free Shipping freeshipper for this and customize the Text on the Free Shipping freeshipper text in the language file ...

There are a few different scenarios for this ...
