Paypal & iFrames Issue

Hello,

Basically ive had to put my zen cart into an iframe (not my choice but it had to be done) but found that paypal does not work with it so im wanting to get around this by when the user clicks "confirm the order" it opens a new window which paypal can load.

Can anyone instruct me how to make this happen?

OR if anyone know how to make paypal work in a frame that would be even better!

Thanks

steve

Re: Paypal & iFrames Issue

Is totally impractical to even think about.

Why do you feel it was necessary to use the iFrame?

Re: Paypal & iFrames Issue

Hello,

Its because the woman im helping build it for wants it running in a window with scrollers in the centre of the page. So thats the only wai ive found to do it. Everything else works perfectly apart from the Paypal option.

Do you know how to make the confirm order open in a new window please?

Thanks

Re: Paypal & iFrames Issue

Hello,

Thought i better try and give some more info, basically im wanting it to work like it dones on the product descriptions when you click "Larger image" it pops up in a new window. Id like that to happen when you click "add to cart"

Or ideally when you click "confirm order" as i dont want them to leave the frame until they actually get passed to paypal but if thats not possible thats fine.

Some input on how to get a popup window to work fromthe "add to cart" or "confirm order" would be a great help!

Thankyou

steve

Re: Paypal & iFrames Issue

Have not used a Iframe for ??? but you might start here as you will need to alter what happens /includes/modules/checkout_process.php

Re: Paypal & iFrames Issue

Hello all,

Managed to fix this in the end and get paypal working by making the "confim order" button open a new window, luckily it still stays in the same session so all is well!

all i did was add target="_blank" to the following code:

echo zen_draw_form('checkout_confirmation', $form_action_url, 'post', 'id="checkout_confirmation" target="_blank" onsubmit="submitonce();"');

in the tpl order confirmation file

Hope this helps anyone else that may have the same issue

Thanks

steve

Re: Paypal & iFrames Issue

Thanks for this thread.

The reason my site contains frames is that I'm testing a different domain name and I have GoDaddy fowarding with masking turned on (needed because Google will disable your ad if the url of your landing page doesn't match the display url of your ad).

The forwarding is done with masking.

But some of my customers have been reporting an error "Sorry, you last action could not be completed" when they try to submit the order and go to Paypal.

I found a thread that says this started happening when Paypal put in a security patch.

I tried it myself with Firefox 3.0.12, going to my site by my forwarded domain, but the problem doesn't happen for me.

I can only assume the reason it is happening for some customers and not others is that it is a combination masked domain/browser issue.

I'm going to implement the suggestion of having it open in a separate window.

Re: Paypal & iFrames Issue

Well, I implemented opening in a separate window, but that doesn't seem to be the best solution.

It means that when the visitor finishes with Paypal or clicks Cancel and Return to Merchant, they now have two windows open to your site. I can see this could get really confusing.

Another cause of the "sorry, your last action cannot be completed" error is when the visitor has cookies disabled. I was able to recreate the error when I disabled my cookies. BUT when I went directly to Paypal and logged in, I also got an error: "We are sorry this page cannot be displayed."

My customer said that got the error when going to Paypal from my site, but were able to log in directly. This makes me think the problem for them was not cookies but was frames (even though I can't recreate the frame problem).

Hmm...just not sure how to fix this gracefully.

Re: Paypal & iFrames Issue

the solution so far in this particular case is to make the "cofirm order" button open a new, seperate window - and i would have to agree with susb8383 - it's not the best solution. in fact, it's not a solution - just a workaround.

the strange thing is - paypal works fine for many people on my site - it's only SOME people that get the described error above...so i'm not sure at this point (feb 2010) that the problem lies in the frame errors from http://community.contractwebdevelopment.com/paypal-sorry-your-last-action-could-not-be-completed .

just my thoughts...

there has got to be a way to make it function for everyone...is it a browser incompatability? more research (and more zen-cart forum searches!)!

Without seeing this, I suspect as you have that it is your frames that is at issue -
JMO - frames are an atiquated coding schema and there are several references to the fact that payment trails are broken by their use
There are alternate non-frame methods of inserting a scrolling box and one should investigate their use versusv frames

do a google search for "css scroll box code"

Using the css method you can have a scroll box for your content and avoid frames altogether.

Re: Paypal & iFrames Issue

while i'm not 100% sure of this, i would say that the frames (and therefore the css scrollbox) is actually not the issue. i've gotten 300 successful paypal express orders in the last 48 hours...yet a small amount of folks still experience the "cannot complete your last action" issue.

i've looked all over the internet and it's a pretty widespread problem it seems - some people are blaming browsers (my friend gets the error in IE8 while i do not), some frames, some the url (which seems fine in zencart's case)...

i can't complain, of course - plenty of orders are coming through...just wanted to keep this thread going to see if anyone else had any comments...SOMETHING's not working right...

Search this site for frames with DrByte as a poster and see the issues with frames

Re: Paypal & iFrames Issue

PayPal won't let you run your site in frames, for security reasons.
