Postage based on weight and size - any advice?

Hi all

I am currently setting up a shop and bought the Zen Cart book which has been really helpful but I am a bit stuck with the shipping:cry:

I only charge the actual postage costs for items and most have to go as a packet so I have got that postage working fine using the table rate.

However, I also sell pens and in the UK these can be sent as a large letter but I cannot work out how to allow this option of postage for the pens only and not the other items that must go as a packet due to their size.

Any ideas please?

Thanks very much.

Have you tried the Big Royal Mail suite of shipping modules?

Many thanks for the quick reply.

I "think" I have that installed as I can see loads of Royal Mail options under shipping modules but it is how I enable/disable them for various products. Would that be the case if I didn't have this addition installed?

I can't do it on weight as 10 pens may weigh more than a Teddy bear that I have to ship that as a small package but the pens will still go as a large letter, for example.

Any more thoughts gratefully received.

Since coming to the UK a few years ago, I have always marvelled at how Royal Mail is hell-bent on complicating postage prices. I think they do this so that customers who do not have a phD in applied mathematics simply give up trying to work out the multitude of combinations and just pay the highest price.

However, where I came from may have had simple postage tariffs - but you were lucky if your package ever made it through the post!
