Flat rate shipping not working with zones

I need my shipping to be as follows:

  1. Free for orders to be delivered in Portugal
  2. In alternative, TNT courier service for orders delivered in Portugal, with a 5€ cost
  3. 5€ cost for all orders from abroad. No TNT available for these

So, I setup the Flat Rate Clone and named it TNT, and it worked for all shipping addresses when I configured it like this:

Flat Rate Clone

Enable Flat Shipping
True

Shipping Cost
5.00

Tax Class
--none--

Tax Basis
Shipping

Shipping Zone
--none--

Sort Order
0

However, when I changed the shipping zone to “Portugal”, or any other for that matter, the module became “yellow” and ceased to appear.
I tried the same in the regular Flat Rate module and it also became yellow when I defined a zone...
What can I be doing wrong?

  1. Set up "FREE SHIPPING! - Freeshipper" to easily set up "Free Shipping" to Portugal.
  2. Name a "Flat Rate" Clone "TNT" (to make it easier to distinguish for the others) and set it up for your said Zone (Portugal).
  3. Set up another "Flat Rate" (clone or original) and price it as you wish; set it up for all countries you wish to ship to for that price (or you can leave "Shipping Zone" to "--None--" leaving it to "none" will make it show up as an option to ALL customers).

When you set a shipping module to a "Zone" it will turn yellow to alert you that the shipping method is not available to all customers. To insure that the shipping module activates when it is supposed to, you will need to make sure you fully set up your "Zone Definitions"...
Admin > Locations/Taxes > Zone Definitions

  1. Click on "insert", and create a Zone Name, and its description.
  2. With your new "Zone" highlighted, click on "Details" then "insert" >> choose the Country and any applicable zones you wish to trigger this particular "Zone".
  3. Go to: Admin >> Modules >> Shipping >> YOUR_SHIPPING_MODULE ... then set up your shipping as you wish for it to be; and select the newly named "Zone" as your "Shipping Zone".

Now, anytime someone chooses ship to that zone (the countries you included in your new Zone) it will show that shipping method, but it will not show for anyone shipping outside of the Zone you have set up.

Hope this helps.

Re: Flat rate shipping not working with zones

thanks, it seems to be working. But now I have to exclude Portugal from the Flat Rate, or else I'll have TNT + Flat Rate for Portugal. How do I do this without having to define a zone with all countries but Portugal? Or how do I define such a zone without doing it by hand, one by one?

Re: Flat rate shipping not working with zones

I am using Zen Cart v.1-3-9
The site was upgraded from v.1-3-8

The site has a custom template, and two cloned shipping methods.

The problem is with shipping methods not displaying when a Zone is selected in the Paypal module and in the cloned Shipping modules.

There is only one Zone defined, and this is the same one used in the Paypal IPN 'Payment Zone', and under the cloned shipping methods' 'Shipping Zone'.

The same behaviour is observed if the built-in Flat-rate shipping module is used (from which the cloned methods were derived), so there doesn't seem to be a problem with the cloning as such.

There is only one Zone defined, where the country defined under 'details' is 'United Kingdom', and the zone applicable to that country is 'All Zones' (the only option available).

As soon as I set the Zone restrictions on payment and shipping, the additional cloned shipping methods disappear as options on the customer interface, even though there is only one Zone, and both Paypal and Shipping options indicate that Zone.

What am I missing?

Thank you
