Can I delete olf product pictures

I am upgrading a site from 1.2.4 to 1.3.8 and I don't think in the older versions when an item was deleted that it automatically deleted the respective picture...

So, is there a way to find out what pictures I have out there that no longer have a product tied to them?

1.3.8 still does not delete these and there is not an "easy" way to do this as you must know the names of what you are or not using
