help? download link doesn't appear

I'm probably just having a "senior moment" here, but I can't figure out what's going on. I have mp3 downloads at my store, and they were working fine. I just got an order and the customer says "where do I download, do you send me a link?" After further correspondence, I put in a test order myself and I have the same problem - no download link - I can't even remember where it shows up in the checkout process. I went to the "my account page" -> history -> that order, and there's no download link there.

HOWEVER

I looked at an older order, and the download links are there in that order, and still work.

I thought maybe it had to do with the fact that the older order was "delivered" while the new was "processing" but I updated to delivered, no change.

Presumably, since the old orders links still work, it's not a global problem.

Any ideas? I'm so stumped.

TIA,
Nathan

Re: help? download link doesn't appear

First I would check and see if your tmp folder has the right permissions. Also check to see what status level you have set to show the download links to customers. Perhaps one of these was changed accidently.

I checked the (downloads controller order) status level. It's set with 2 as the lower value and 4 as the higher.

The temp folder is the same as tmp, right? That was at 777. I stf and found 755 as the recommended setting, so changed it to that. No difference.

I'm trying to remember any changes since the first time I tested all this - when it worked. I have actually replaced all the mp3 files (mp3s within zips actually), but the filenames are the same. And, again referencing an older test order, it still shows the download link and allows me to download - weird! FWIW, the test orders I'm referring to are both done with an account I just created for myself the same way that any other customer would. I guess that's pretty standard, but wanted to be clear. I use easypopulate, and I've probably updated the whole catalog since that first round, but always maintained the model numbers. I don't think there even is a way to tweak the download link via easypopulate (wish there was, actually).

Any other ideas? I really appreciate the help.

Re: help? download link doesn't appear

I've also tried "re-entering" the downloadable file info via the attributes controller. When I click "insert", I see no change. Should there be a visible confirmation on this page?

This prompted me to look at the "Downloads Manager" There are no products listed there. That's bad, right? I have 600+ files for download.

Why wouldn't at least the one I've just "re-entered" show up?

Yikes.

So confused.

Re: help? download link doesn't appear

Guess it's solved, or at least resolved.

Somehow all my file associations have been lost.

So I have to re-enter each.

The reason my re-entry failed before is that I was entering the filename at the bottom of the attributes controller screen, which seems to be for new attributes only.

The file format mp3 attribute is still intact for each item, so it needs to be updated via the edit button just above the "adding new attributes" section of the attributes controller screen.

IMHO, this is one of the most cryptic parts of zencart. I'd so love to see a downloadable file association that could be updated via a csv file. Via easypopulate would be fine.

Anyway, thanks much for the help Picci.

I'm off for a few hours of data entry...

Re: help? download link doesn't appear

oops, when I wrote tmp folder(actually temp folder - you are correct) I meant to say pub folder. The pub folder may need 777 permissions.

Not seeing any downloadables in your download manager is not good. When you go to your attributes controller does everything look alright there? Do you see the green dot icon on your files?

What version of ZC are you running?

I did check the pub folder as well, it's 777.

The attributes controller showed that the catalog item had an attribute of "file format" and that it was "mp3", but there is no filename listed there. Another wishlist item: it would be nice if there were some indication of a missing filename there. If you've no filename, there's nothing to indicate one way or the other. Once you have a file associated, of course, you get the red or green dot, but before that I was trying repeatedly to update via the lower insert field described in a previous post, and there was no way to tell whether anything was accomplished.

Now that I'm going back and re-entering each file (one by one by one by....), they're showing up, green dot and all.

I'm running 1.3.7.1

Thanks again for the help.
