Add text to Paypal IPN in Payment Method

I would like to add text to advise the customer that card payments can be made if they select the “Paypal IPN” option in the Payment Method section off check out. Could you advise which file or files needs to be altered.

I had a look with the Developer’s Tool kit searching “Paypal IPN” this brings up a number of results.

So you want to add this message to the payment page during checkout?

If so, there's some text on that page next to the PayPal option which says "Save time. Check out securely. Pay without sharing your financial information." You could add to or replace this text with your desired message. To do this, you would need to go to..

includes/languages/english/modules/payment/paypal.php

Line 20 I think.

Remember to overide the file.

When the customer gets to step 2 of 3 where the Billing Address can be changed etc there is box headed Payment Method with:-

Please select a payment method for this order.
Check/Money Order

Paypal IPN

In:- includes/languages/english/modules/payment/paypal.php

You can edit this line:-

  define('MODULE_PAYMENT_PAYPAL_ACCEPTANCE_MARK_TEXT', 'Save time. Check out securely. <br />Pay without sharing your financial information.');

That will change the text under the paypal icons.

In:- includes/languages/english/modules/payment/paypal.php
I do not have that line of code, there is no text below the paypal icons.
The Zencart version is 1.3.7.1

Ah... I'm looking at the file in 1.3.8a .

Substantial improvements were made in the PayPal process from the 1.3.7 version.

If you rely on PayPal as a key payment option, you would do well to upgrade your zenshop to 1.3.8a

In the time between my last posting and your post above, you could have upgraded 20 times...

... 1.3.8a has enhanced Paypal features and functionality and, what's more, you would have been able to add the text already.

To try this in 1.3.7 will require some custom coding. As I don't use 1.3.7, I can't advise where to alter code. This may also be part of the challenge - the knowledgeable people in the forum tend to upgrade - so they aren't in a position to advise you as they no longer have "working set-ups" of old versions.

We are also using 1.3.7 at the moment in :-

We changed line 20 to:-
define('TEXT_SELECT_PAYMENT_METHOD', 'Please select a payment method for this order, most payment cards can be used if PayPal IPN is selected - In order to COMPLETE your order you will need to click the RETURN LINK once payment is made on the PayPal site.');

Starting on the 16th May then the 17th and the 20th we started receiving the odd PayPal payment without an order being logged by our site. We have logged a support ticket however PayPal said:-

"The Auto Return function may not be the best option if you are relying on return information for back end processing. If your customer makes the payment using the PayPal Account Optional feature, the Auto Return function is temporarily halted as the customer will see a payment confirmation page and be given the option to either a) Return to merchant, or b) Save their information to create a PayPal account. This payment confirmation page is displayed to meet legal requirements for payment processing.

Unless the customer clicks the 'Return to merchant' link, they will not be returned to your site. This can, and does, result in a loss of data for back end processes"

It seems strange that we had hundreds of orders without a problem before this, but added the note to return to the site after payment with the hope it helps. We will see if it works

(Last week PayPal had problems with their IPN - but typically, failed to notify merchants! We also had paypal payments come through, but no order in the shop!)

We have therefore customised a header image on the paypal site, in which we put a bright red message informing customers to click the "return" to our website if the paypal auto-return does not work. We clearly state that failure to return to our site may result in funds being deducted from their card, but no order registering in our shop.

On some shop, we have "paypal stuck orders" module installed - the dbase log of all paypal orders in the "pending" state. This helps a bit, but needs to be checked manually every day.

I felt PayPal had sent a standard reply, I did mention this problem had been raised by many on the Zencart forum around this time but they did not respond.

A simple set of instructions on how to customise a header image on the PayPal site would be appreciated if you have time. Belts and bracers would help on this one!

The upgrade is a bit scary since I am very new at this and am afraid that if I haven't done something correctly, I could mess up my site that is currently working fine. I will do all my backups and give it a go.

The line of code you need to look for in the paypal.php file mentioned above is

define('MODULE_PAYMENT_PAYPAL_TEXT_CATALOG_TITLE',

I have added the following

define('MODULE_PAYMENT_PAYPAL_TEXT_CATALOG_TITLE', 'Paypal IPN & Credit Card Payments <br>(Note: You do not need a paypal account to pay by credit card)');

The above seems to work fine in 1.3.7a
