Populating the Shop with products

Can I input items direct from a spread sheet or does every item have to be put in individually? I have 20,000 books to sell!

Thanks

Re: Populating the Shop with products

The only practical way to do this is to use EASY-POPULATE by Langer.

There are 2 versions:-

  1. The standard (FREE) version that has sufficient functionality to upload general product data.

  2. The advanced (commercial) version that has added features, such as attribute upload capacity, meta tags, and a few more.

If this is a NEW install, you could probably get by with the standard (free) version, and the module is available in the downloads section.

There are plenty of posts about easypopulate on the forum - but just make sure you follow the module installation instructions.

20,000 products is a relatively large number - EasyPopulate will need to handle them in batches.

Re: Populating the Shop with products

Suggest you start with Easy Populate 1.2.5.5 available from this site's download area.

Re: Populating the Shop with products

Zencart will work for you...

I just installed Easypopulate on a fresh ZC 1.3.8a install. It took 2 minutes, and I populated my store with 500 products in under a minute.

Re: Populating the Shop with products

i've been using EPA 3.0.3 with great success until i used it to upload my meta tags. i mean the meta tags changed, but so did my product layout page. my product name (on the product description pages and the background look different), they are no longer centered and take 2 lines now.

i have made changes to my tpl_product_info file as well as stylesheet, and everything was just fine until i uploaded the metatags.

anyone had this issue before?
any ideas on how to fix it?

Re: Populating the Shop with products

website here, if you like to take a look

http://got-jdm.com/JDM

i only uploaded the metatags for all my clutch kits, and the layout of those pages changes, and all other pages remained normal.

then i added meta tags to one of my engine listings, and all of the products layouts is broken now

you may use your spreadsheet file, however you will have to copy/paste your books info into the easy populate file. EP file is setup in a very specific format, just make sure you keep the heading of EP file intact, or else it won't upload.

i highly recommend 3.0.3 EPA, worth way more then $65

Re: Populating the Shop with products

i also fixed my problem in post #8.
i had to set all my meta tags, i mean all of them to the same vale of either 1 or 0 for the following:

v_metatags_title_status
v_metatags_products_name_status
v_metatags_model_status
v_metatags_price_status
v_metatags_title_tagline_status

it all works beautiful now

When you set to 1 or 0 what exactly does that mean. I am about to upload metags for 300k products and I want to do it right.

Go here:-

http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Easy_Populate

Thanks for posting that link. I hadn't seen it before it it is useful.

However, it only explains some of the main headings, not the ones that deal with meta tags. Is there a place where this is explained, especially the 1 or 0 value mentioned in the previous posts?

Thanks again!

Re: Populating the Shop with products

"1" and "0" are switches.

1 means "Make this ACTIVE" (switch the feature ON)

0 means "Make this IN-ACTIVE" (switch the feature OFF)

Re: Populating the Shop with products

When you define your meta tags for a product:-

You get this screen:-

Now, the following refer to those radio button options:-

v_metatags_title_status
v_metatags_products_name_status
v_metatags_model_status
v_metatags_price_status
v_metatags_title_tagline_status

Setting these to " 1 " will make the radio button YES
Setting these to " 0 " will make the radio botton NO

Re: Populating the Shop with products

I would like to upload product meta tags via Easy Populate - I have the "free" version.

If I just add columns (properly named of course) to the spreadsheet, will this work?

I'll start by adding these (as noted in prevous posts here)

v_metatags_title_status
v_metatags_products_name_status
v_metatags_model_status
v_metatags_price_status
v_metatags_title_tagline_status

and then add colums for the actual meta tags.

OR - should I just break the piggy bank and get the Commercial version?

Re: Populating the Shop with products

I just tried to install Easy Populate Advanced 3.0.3. I received the dreaded error:

Configuration Error

Your Easy Populate configuration is either missing, corrupted, incomplete, or is a previous Easy Populate version. Easy Populate will remove any old version you may have & will install by clicking the link above.

Where can I get a basic online course or book on Linux file structure so I can understand the rather criptic installation instructions. I am sure my problem is correct file location, especially for the uploads folder.

Help.
