Sub categories don't show

I've noticed this a few times and its becoming a major problem. My home page opens fine and when I click on a category in the left side bar, the subcategories underneath show but when I click on a subcategory link, the page basically freezes, ie the proper page with the thumbnails of the subcategories doesn't show. To get it to work, I have to click on the main category link in the side bar again and then when I click on a subcategory again, the page generally opens. Is this a bug or is this a problem I should take up with my web host ?

Your Zen Cart version

My web host is having problems with the hard disk drive on the server so is having having to switch everyone to a new server. Should solve the problem. If not, I'm using zc 1.3.8a. The site under development is https://www.gardenserre.fr.
