Turn off order confirmation email when keying orders manually?

Hi,

I want to turn the order confirmation email off all together, on a customer by customer basis or if I can do it by customer group that would be the preferred option.

The reason for this is that we deal with a lot of wholesale clients who call or fax their orders through, which we enter in the system on their behalf (a lot also do it online too). Their accounts people get confused getting the order confirmation email, so I wanted to turn it off for at least for my wholesale group and when we later change the status to shipped they can be sent the usual email then, so they can go get their invoice.

However I don't want to edit the email content or disable emails from ZenCart completely, I just want to stop the order confirmation email, or select the customer group or individual customers who do or don't receive the confirmation emails.

I still want them to receive an email when notify customer is checked on the admin side or I send out newsletters or emails from admin.

Any other suggestions or solutions out there??

Having been in the same position of wanting to create orders for customers without their receiving emails, the only way I found to do it was to turn off all email sending until I was finished. Fortunately (or not, I guess) I wasn't doing so much business that another order was likely to come through at the same time.

I'm no programmer, but I wonder how difficult it would be to add a "Turn Off Confirmation Email' option to, say, the 'Admin Login as Customer' mod?

Thanks for your reply, but we unfortunately process quite a few orders, with perhaps two or more people logged in to the admin side doing order processing, accounts, packing etc at the same time, so turning off the email all together is not really a desired option.

I thought I would just be able to turn the order confirmation off under the email settings in admin, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I don't care if no one receives the order confirmation, as it is only once the order status is updated to [confirmed] that anyone we deal with is interested in - after all, if someone places a retail order themselves they have a screen saying their order has been placed!!

Any how . . . I would still like help as to whether or not we can turn the order confirmation email off for everyone, for a group or individually.

If you believe this is necessary for your site, simply edit the checkout_process.php module and tell it not to send the email if the customer is a member of the specified group ... or whatever criteria you desire.

You don't need to comment out the notifier call.

And if you comment-out the send-order-email call, then NOBODY will ever get any order confirmation messages.

Dangerous, but if that's what you want, that's where to do it.

This does seem the right place.

How would I select one or two groups to not receive the confirmation email? Or how do I select the groups who do receive the confirmation email?

Run a query to look up the customers_group_pricing value from the customers table based on $_SESSION['customer_id']. If the number matches the group number you're wanting to exclude, take appropriate action.
