Adding row of links under header

I want to add a line of links under the Header. The links will be to non-ZC pages, such as my blog, a gallery, project pages, etc. None of them will be the EZ pages.

Here's the site I'm building:
http://www.from-the-heart-creations.com/shop/

Here's a graphic I created to show what I want the page to look like:
http://www.from-the-heart-creations.com/added-row.jpg

Thanks for any help.

Re: Adding row of links under header

I would rethink the ez_pages. At least for the header. Putting extra items in the navMain div is not difficult BUT... Zen will treat them differently and you will lose the ZenID when you leave the cart that way. In other words, a shopping customer will lose their cart items if they click on your blog while items are in their cart.

Ez_pages will keep the session if you set them up correctly.

Look at creating an ezpage as an external link and in the header - this will be the easiest and also be manageable from the admin

Re: Adding row of links under header

Thank you for the advice on using EZpages so I don't lose the ZenID. I had read about that awhile ago - just forgot.

I will definitely look into doing the ezpage as an external link.

Do I have to use the Wordpress mod or will I be able to link to a regular installation of WP?

Also, I was thinking of using Coopermine as the gallery.

All depends on how you want the "Full" experience to be??

Links to other applicatons can be used and might be preferrable at your option.

Look at this complete site

Home page is Zen Cart as is the shop and most other pages
Then there is the Tutorial/FAQ's area that is a KB application skinned to blend
This forum is VB skinned to blend
Etc

You can do the same

Re: Adding row of links under header

Thanks for clearing up what site was being referenced.

Here's an attempt I've made to put in an Amazon A Store into a page on my site - Click on "Bookstore" in the top navigation bar:

http://www.from-the-heart-creations.com/shop/

I thought set it up to now have the sideboxes on this page - but maybe it needs to be turned off on more than just the page I created the EZ page. I need the space so that the entire iframe will show up - the navigation for the store is off to the right and can't be seen.

Re: Adding row of links under header

You will need to set this up as an external page so that it doesn't try to load in the center content of Zen.

Re: Adding row of links under header

I had a light bulb go off when I was reading another post about EZpages. I thought that turning things on and off when creating the page meant that the Header, Sidebox, Footer, etc. would be on the page. Duh. It controls where the page is listed - not what shows up on the page.

Okay, will set it up as an external link and see what happens.

Re: Adding row of links under header

I got what I wanted. Thank you for the help.

I created an html page and put it in a directory called /booskshop/

The page contains my shop's logo, the page background, and the iFrame link provided by Amazon for my aStore.

I created an EZpage that linked to the new page (made it an internal link) - and put in the full URL to the Bookshop. I made it so it would open up in a new window. I think this is a good idea since it would help with any confusion about the shopping carts. Think I'll add a comment on the page that any purchases of books or magazine from the bookshop will go through Amazon.

Also wanted to check to see if I lost what was in the shopping cart. I signed into a dummy account I made. Put several things in my shopping cart. Went to a product page, clicked the link to Bookshop - which opened in a new window. When I went back to my shopping cart - the items were still there. When I logged out, closed the window, and went back again - the items were still in my shopping cart. I even tried it by not signing into an account and after I clicked on the Bookshop link - the items were still there.

Now, on to edit the stylesheet to get rid of the ugly blue link. :-)

I thought I would post this so if anyone ever searches on how to work with EZpages they would see what I ended up doing.

All of the above is dependant upon how long one stays on the other page as the session will time out at some point

Re: Adding row of links under header

Thank you for the information. I don't know if there's a way for me to see if this is happening. If there is, I might take the bookshop out or buy some books to actually put in my shop. :-)

Re: Adding row of links under header

Now that I've figured out how to do what I wanted to - I've decided to just leave the shop as part of the site and create a main page that will go in my root and let that link to the shop, bookstore, gallery, blog, etc. That way when someone goes to the shop part, they will hopefully concentrate on that. But that doesn't mean I won't be adding EZ pages - they just won't be things that will take them away from the site.

Atleast I learned something and got a new understanding of part of ZC.
