Super Newb question

I managed to install the apple zen template to my site and now its time for me to edit the content (everything is brand new). I have dreamweaver but am lost on how to get started. In dreamweaver I am able to connect to the site via ftp and see the list of folder on the right. I thought I had downloaded the site so that I can start editing it but all I see is code which defeats the purpose of me wanting to use dreamweaver. When I go to manage site, it is indeed in the list. I went through the help files of dreamweaver and it didnt help me and I also tried searching on this forum but it came up with a lot of threads that didnt look like they would help (they all looked like most of the people were already had started to make some progress with dreamweaver). Please help or point me in the right direction, I am lost

Re: Super Newb question

Zencart appearance isn't changed like HTML pages. The pages are created by PHP and presented to your browser. Dreamweaver can be used, but only as an FTP/Browser Preview.

To modify the Apple Zen (or any other) template, you need to research which Zencart files control which pages, and download those files via FTP to your computer, edit them to create the look you want, and upload them back to your server.

It always helps to unzip the installation zipfile to your local computer so you can examine the file/folder structure.

Also follow the instructions in afo's post here http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94778

Sounds complicated when you're used to WYSIWYG editors like Dreamweaver, but once you've worked it for a little while, it's pretty easy, and you'll know a lot more about Zencart.

Check the FAQ/Tutorials and search this forum for any specific problems or questions you run into, and post specific questions about anything you can't figure out. We'll be glad to help.
