I'm new here, and not sure where to begin!

Good morning. I am a new ZenCart user ! Hoorah!!!! I've installed it and so far it looks like it is the answer to my needs.

My name is Jason. Nice to meet all of you.

I have to build a shopping cart to handle products that have always been priced by hand and attributes have always been hard priced, not upcharges.

I know this is the general area, so if you can get me going in the right direction, I'll move my questions to the correct sections..... :)

Here is a link to the first product I have to convert to a cart.
http://sawickiandson.com/lawn_signs.html

I think this is my situation, please correct me if I am going down the wrong road with my thinking....

In a nut shell, this product is "Yard Sign"

It has these attributes (I think!):
Size
Number of colors
Factory Installed Wires

I think that is pretty easy. My problems come is with pricing.

The pricing is set based on fixed quantities, not the pricing tables in the above link. But you can order quantities outside the price table. ie; I can order 130 signs from this company. Now the hard part.... The price has "Not to Exceed" value from the company when you place an order.

Contemplate this example:

If I want 240 signs, the price is $3.29 ea because I have not reached the 250qty price break. $3.29 x 240 = $789.60

Well, that's fine, except I can buy 250 signs for $627.50. I can get 10 more signs for $162.10 less.

So if the grand total of the number of signs I am buying exceeds the next price break, the grand total should be capped at the cost of the next price break.

Now my next problem.
Can I generate that price table in the above link from zen-cart? Right now it is hard coded.

Thanks for your assistance in getting me going....

Jason.

Experiment with adding a quantity discount table

admin > catalog > price manager > select the product > install qty discounts

enter your values in the table and check what/how it is applied

Re: I'm new here, and not sure where to begin!

Okay, I have the price breaks table filled in, but I don;t see a way to deal with my problem.

The price has a "Not to Exceed" value from the company when you place an order.

Contemplate this example:

If I want 240 signs, the price is $3.29 ea because I have not reached the 250qty price break. $3.29 x 240 = $789.60

Well, that's fine, except I can buy 250 signs for $627.50. I can get 10 more signs for $162.10 less.

So if the grand total of the number of signs I am buying exceeds the next price break (250 x $2.51), the grand total should be capped at the cost of the next price break.

So, in the $3.29 x 240 example above, the total should be $627.50, not $789.60

Thanks.

Okay, I have the price breaks table filled in,
So what did this actually do when you ordered 240?

Or a link to your site

Okay, seems to be fixed. I wasn't able to post for about 24 hours?

If I order 240 signs, it ccharges me more than 250 signs!

Here is the store:

Re: I'm new here, and not sure where to begin!

The cart is doing exactly what you told it to do. Most of these price breaks also give the customer the incentive to "jump" to the next level.

250 can be purchased for the price of 200 but, that doesn't mean the customer will decide to get the extra 50.

I have one customer that invariably buys just under the discount for the next level. I keep telling them they'd do better ordering one more with each order to get the discount. Answer is always "don't need the extra now."

You do have a large jump between options that might turn off the customer. How about making it

  • 50 - 100
  • 101 - 150
  • 151 - 200
  • 201 - 250
  • etc.
You can adjust the prices accordingly but, right now, you're forcing the customer to order in big chunks.

Re: I'm new here, and not sure where to begin!

How can I cap the price of the prior price group to not exceed the next price group's min qty?

My customer requires this...

Not sure what you are asking. ZenCart knows which price to charge based on the quantity ordered. If you want to make ZenCart NOT charge more than the 150 price for, say, 135..... That's a whole different ball game! Can you say expensive coding?

Re: I'm new here, and not sure where to begin!

That's exactly what I am asking for, although there are two ways to get there. The first would be a calcualtion and the second would be a MAX price value for the price group.

Are there methods via modules or add-ins to interact with the price calculations of the cart software?

Apparently after setting this up and testing it functions as you do not want.
There are not addins or modules that I am aware of to do what you want but as this is opensource "custom code" can be created for anything that is possible it is just a matter of how important this is and what you might be willing to pay a coder to do it if you can not.
