Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file

Hi Guy’s,
it’s taken me three days and I’ve only just managed to install Zen cart, and I can tell you it’s been three days from hell,

Now I’m getting this message,

Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/fhlinux149/s/scrapbookingmad.com/user/htdocs/store/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file (read-only, CHMOD 644 or 444 are typical). You may need to use your webhost control panel/file-manager to change the permissions effectively. Contact your webhost for assistance. See this FAQ

I’ve deleted the zc_install folder but when I tried to change the 2 configuer.php files back to read only it wouldn’t work, I phoned my web host and they have said that I need to get SSH, I’ve had a little read about this but really just don’t know if I’m capable of doing it,

Is there anybody out there that could help me with this?

Also I’m not sure if this problem has created another problem or if it’s a separate problem but when I go to my admin page there seems to be an error,

I have a list of the following but when i click on them nothing happens,

Configuration
Catalog
Modules
Customers
Locations / taxes
Localization
Reports
Tools
Gift certificates / coupons
Extras

Just to let you know that my current website is running, I don’t know if this affects it,

Re: Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file

I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but if your host requires that you use SSH to change file permissions, you need a new host. My host doesn't even allow SSH access.

You did try to change the permissions using the file manager in your hosts control panel, right?

Re: Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file

I cant seam to find the file manager I phoned them today and they try to change it for me but they couldn’t do it either, that was when they told me that I needed the ssh, do you think that I should contact them again?

Re: Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file

snarfy, why don't you mention this problem is being handled in another of your threads?
That will keep people from getting confused.

BTW, sounds like your Host doesn't know what they are doing, if they cannot take the 5 minutes necessary to fix the problem for you; or don't know how.

Re: Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file

A search for 'fasthosts' on this forum suggests that my original advice 'you need a new host' is the right one.

It appears that fasthost only offers a control panel as an extra-cost option.

Please do yourself a big favor and consider the Zencart-approved hosts under 'hosting'at the top of this page.

Re: Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file

Ok, I may well consider that I’ll have a look now,

The problem is I’ve just paid out for a database so I’ll lose the cash for that!!

I posted a message in the commercial help wanted and I’ve got a guy who’s willing to help me get the site set up so that I can work on it my self,

What do you think?
Will he be able to sort it or will he come across the same problems?

Re: Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file

A good Coder can do whatever Zen Cart work needs to be done without the need for a Hosting Control Panel.

Re: Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file

Superprg has just been helping me out, he’s managed to set the permission files to read only, so now It should be ready for me to go,

The only trouble is I just don’t have a clue, at the moment I’m just reading a lot on the forums and just trying to familiarise myself with the set up, hope fully some thing will just click in my brain and there be no stopping me,

The one thing I’m trying to find info on is the actual structure set up and also how to add a template and backing ground colour/picture,
any help on this would be great

Re: Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file

I think I know why I’m not getting any where

I’ve been doing a lot of searching on the net and I just found this tutorial

http://www.2serveu.net/ZenCart/tutorials/zencart_tutorial_configurestore.htm

This is not what I see on my page
http://www.scrapbookingmad.com/store/admin/index.php

I just get a list down the left side, when you put in the web address do you see the same thing as the tutorial ubove or do you see what I see, a list down the left side of the screen, plus where all the buttons should be there are red x’s,

I can send you a screen shot if you like, this might help?
