Question about setting up a new Custom Template

Okay, so it seems that you have to create a new custom template to keep from overwriting your files upon upgrade... Is this correct?

I have followed the steps to create a new template. I have not copied any language files etc into a new folder.

I applied the new template in the admin panel.

Okay, now what do I do? Do I need to copy all those language files, etc into new include/languages/CUSTOM folder?

The FAQ says not to do that until you change them? What if I don't plan to change them all?

The sad thing is, I really liked the default template. It just happens that the green with gray background is perfect for what I'm doing. The only thing I didn't like was the width (too narrow).

Now that I have the new custom template applied my store is all funky pink & yellow.....

What do I do next?

Only put into your custom folders the files you intend on modifying. The files that you don't want to change, just leave them where they are.

It sounds like you may not have copied over the CSS and images folder from the template_default folder to your custom folder.

UPDATE Okay, I figured out how to get the green theme back. I just used the files from the "classic" folder instead of the files from the "template_default" folder.

Do I need copy all the language and module files. I read "understanding the override system", and I still don't understand the override system...

It says only files that are modified need to be saved in a new directory, adding /CUSTOM on to the directory.

So I assume If I'm not going to edit, say anything in includes/languages them I do not need to make a new directory and copy anything over.

Wherever you see a folder called Classic, you can create a custom folder beside it and put any modified files in there.

Also, one post per question is adequate.
