can't get notepad to open my PHP files

Can anyone please help.

When I was setting up my site on my own pc I had no problem editing php files in notepad.

I then uploaded using filezilla to the host I was using.

Since then all the php files have become "picture it" files and I can no longer open them to edit them. This is driving me mad as I want to change the meta tag php file and I can't get into it.

Someone has told me to go into Filezilla tools and change php to notepad. Is this right? and how on earth do I do this?

I am a complete novice basically teaching myself from scratch so please can you make the advice really simple.

Keep a local folder on your pc - FTP the file you want to edit to that folder - edit it -save

Then FTP it back to your server

Two things:

You can download the file, then right-click on the file name and select Open with from the menu and choose Notepad from the options.

Better way -

Run Windows Explorer
Click Tools - Folder Options and click the File Types tab at the top
Scroll down the list until you see PHP on the left
Highlight PHP and click Change
Select Notepad in the box that opens and click OK.

That should open PHP files automatically from now on in Notepad.

All this assumes you're using Windows.

However, I now have another problem. Since doing this I am no longer able to log into my admin control panel at
https://www.mystore.co.uk/admin/login.php

Any suggestions as I really need to be able to get into this today.

What happens when you try to log in? Any error message?

No....no error messages or anything like that.

Just nothing at all happens.........I haven't a clue what to do next.

Really need some suggestions.....I am sure I have messed something up when trf my files over to sort out the php / picture it problem
