How can I change the manufacturer's box from a drop down box to a list?

1. Number of manufacturers names to be displayed in the scroll box window. Setting this to 1 or 0 will display a dropdown list.

i dont want a drop down box either, i just want it to be a non-scrollable list somehow

1. increase the size of the scrolling list

I realise I'm bringing back an old thread here but I also want a list not a dropdown but I want it in the same style as the category list, so not contained in the old dropdown border and no "Please Select" at the top. Also need to change style and colour to match category list and each entry seems limited to the amount of characters shown - need to remove that.
