How to remove "New Products for April"

Can someone please tell me how to suppress the display of the "new Products for [month]" box from the center panel?

I successfully removed it from the side panel, but can't find where the center one is controlled.

admin -> configuration -> index listing -> Show New Products on Main Page (set to 0)

OK, I changed the setting in Configuration/Index Listing/Show New Products on Main Page to 0=OFF.

However, they still display!!!

What else needs to be done?

OK, that removed the new products being displayed, but the header bar is still there!

What else do I need to do?
