shared SSL & which credit card merchant to go with...

Hi
I have my hosting with streamline.net and i also took up the SSL option for extra, they now tell me its a shared SSL, one question what are the inplecations with that as opposed to a non shared SSL?

also i am looking at barclays (who i bank with) for providing a credit card facility for my site, anyone know the best way to marry up both questions to get me up and running with a credit card checkout facility, what is the best route??

and finally....
i have an ssl password and a ftp password, when it come to setting this up what files do i put where?

hope that makes some kind of sense!

Shared SSL certificates will not function properly in most php environments. Shared SSL certificates will only function with html and cgi/perl based scripts. The ZC application (using php) implements a Session Management process using authenticated users with cookies enabled. This is a ZC requirement, since a customer using a browser with cookies disabled will not be able to login into her account or to complete a purchase transaction. The session store is a dedicated table, named SESSIONS, part of the ZC application MySQL database.

The most common problem experienced when using a shared certificate with the ZC application is loosing your php session when sending transactions to your Payment Gateway. The shared SSL certificate is imposing a URL (https://secure.server.yourhost.com/~yourdomain/) that is different from your ZC store URL (hhtp://www.yourdomain.com) and thus forcing the creation of a second session for the secure exchange. When you link back to your ZC store, the secure session is no longer accessible.

The only practical solution to this problem of loosing the php session is to install a personal or dedicated SSL certificate for your domain. That way both secure and non-secure URLs will be the same. The personal SSL certificate also requires a dedicated IP address for your ZC host. (provided by your Host Provider normally for an additional fee).

The Barclay ePDQ Merchant Payment Interface does not seem to be available as a published ZC contribution unless it is hidden somewhere in the ZC Web site. Contacting the bank on the matter may lead you to a solution.

The FTP password is to be used when configuring your FTP program (FileZilla) needed to upload ZC files and images to your store host.

If you are in UK, choose Iridium, BUT you will require FULL
SSL Cert...much cheaper method than using barclays directly.
There is also zencart Iridium mod that works perfectly.
