I can't figure out the german lang.pack

Hi,

I've tried to install the german language pack, but it turns out to be a complete zen cart distribution in german. So I was thinking I'd just use the language part of it and install that, but I keep on getting a notice in my admine screen:

was unable to locate german german

So I tried installing it as Deutsch german, and it says was unable to find deutsch german.

The folder is named german and there is also a german.php in there even weirder is that the german texts just seem to be working fine in the store, but that error is very annoying in my screen.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong or where I can find a german language pack without an entire zen cart distribution (I got this one from the download section link on this site)

Thank you in advance,

Juliet van Ree

Re: I can't figure out the german lang.pack

Yes that is exactly the pack I used, but I still get an error : was unable to locate german german. Maybe it's the way I named the pack. I also tried deutsch german or deutsch but it wouldn't work. Maybe someone can tell me what the default name is for installing the pack.

It does show german in the store when I install it though, it's purely in the admin that i get this error.

Re: I can't figure out the german lang.pack

there are two thing wich come to my mind.

  1. simple. get /admin/includes/languages/english files and put them in /admin/includes/languages/german (same with /admin/includes/languages/english.php to /admin/includes/languages/german.php). And lose German language in admin section.
  2. get a file comparator (for example WinGrep, i think that was its name) download all language files to your computer and compare two directories.

P.S. Could you put a link here to distribution u use, so i can download and test on my cart. (it is no biggie addin another language)

Re: I can't figure out the german lang.pack

Sorry for the late reply, I had a little time of :D

I used this one http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=146657

When you go to the download section on zencart, you get a zipfile and in it there is a text file that tells you to download from sourceforge... so that's what I did.

Thank you for your help!

I don't want to derail the thread but is it really no big deal to add another language? I am being asked to add Italian to one site and German as a second language to another. I am concerned about opening a gigantic can of works by getting into it.

Re: I can't figure out the german lang.pack

Dont get me wrong, adding language to test is easy :) making multylingual site is really pain in the neck, so i promised i will test that language pack :) not definitions and not correct translation, just the way u have to add the language, since i am not too good in German (as a matter of fact i know only few words)
now i am downloading package, will post my result in short time.

Re: I can't figure out the german lang.pack

I replicated your problem:
I downloaded this one

zen-cart-v1.3.7.p1-german-20070131.zip Mirror 5921979 11533 None None
then uploaded only german files from admin and catalog /includes
then i got the error you received...
then i just uploaded again the files, and the problem was gone... it seems some files are missing... before u reupload files, download entire directory and compare it files with english version, so u r sure u have all needed files on your site.

P.S. it will be good (if possible) to post your solution (if any) here so other ppl can learn :)
P.P.S. if u cant make it work... then post so we continue work on that.

/off MeltDown... if u want good work of cart, i could recomend, to encode the site in UTF-8, ISO-8559-1 might work well on english based carts but other languages suffer greatly, there is topics on that, so u might want to read, i personaly ran my cart in 7 languages, then i got bored and removed them :) now i am gona stick to English and Bulgarian. U need to know languages u gona administer, because u may find big surprises when someone tell u what u have just done :)

Re: I can't figure out the german lang.pack

Anyone find where this is? I want to remove :

HEADING_TITLE

On the start page.

Willkommen Gast! Wollen Sie sich anmelden?

Piece of cake to add languages, all you need to remember is what contributions you added.

The only text you need to change is the English between the apostrophes.

define('BOX_HEADING_GeoTrust', 'Secured');

define('BOX_HEADING_GeoTrust', 'Gesichert');

Cheers!

Re: I can't figure out the german lang.pack

It is not actually German related :) i cant remember where exactly was that line... but if u have a copy of site offline u can start a search thru files for that particular phrase.
Notepad++ can help u search thru files in a directory.

Re: I can't figure out the german lang.pack

Any new files you add to the English directory you must add them to the other language directory and change the text that appears with the translation for the appropriate language.

Cheers!
