Help required for new products on our Site.

Hi all,

We are in the process of adding software to our website. We want to add anti-virus software and provide our customers with the option of purchasing a 1 or a 2 year license.

Also, we need to provide them with the option of buying it for 1,2 ,3 ,4 etc computers. Is there a way of doing this with zencart

This is probably best achieved using ATTRIBUTES (Option names and Option values)... managed in ADMIN>>>CATALOG>>>Option Names Manager and Option Values Manager.

First, you need to create an Option Name - possibly called "License Duration".

Open Option Name Manager.

Create your option name as desired...

Then, you need to create some Option Values for that Option Name, possibly called:-

One Year
Two Years

Open Option Values Manager and create the value labels as desired, against the Option Name of "License Duration".

These values should be either radio buttons or a drop-down menu.

You can then set up another Option Name / Option Values set for your "Number of Computers/Workstations" requirement.

Costs (prices) are assigned later, when you "attach" the attribute to a specific product.

Thats great thank you, I have done this, and added a test product, but im struggling to assign it to the test product, can you explain how this is meant to do, and where the prices would go

Once you have set up your attributes (Option Names with their assigned Option Values), you "bind" the attribute to a product using the Attributes Manager feature.

You can do this several ways, here's one:-

Go to ADMIN>>>CATALOG>>>CATEGORIES PRODUCTS

Navigate down to the level where you can see the list of products in a category. There is a range of "coloured buttons" on the right of the screen.

Click on the " Black 'A' " next to a product you wish to "bind" an attribute to.

On the right of the resultant screen will be a large grey box with a button titled "Attribute Controller" - click that button...

This takes you to that product's ATTRIBUTE MANAGER. When you get to that screen, scroll down a bit to the section:

ADDING NEW ATTRIBUTES**

There, you will see TWO menus, one with the OPTION NAMES, and the one next to it with the OPTION VALUES.

(A) Select the Option Name (highlight it), then select the first Option Value that is RELEVANT to it. (The relevance is indicated by a label in SQUARE BRACKETS [XXXX] ).

(Now, the next part is dependant on how you wish to PRICE your product. Let's assume that you have set your product up earlier as a subscription, with a base price of $100 for one year.)

Under the Adding New Attributes section, you will see:-

Prices and Weights

Your standard product has been set up as a one year subscription costing $100

Apply a price factor of 0.0000 to the one-year subscription attribute.

Click [Insert] on the right hand side of the screen. You now have an option value of 1 year subs for the service/product

Then, go through the process of adding another Option Value (See A above). This time, select the 2-year option value.

Then, in the Prices and Weights section, in the box next to the " + " sign, ADD the additional cost of a 2-year sub. For example $100, so insert 1.0000 .

(This means "to the original price of $100, add a further $100 for this attribute")

Click [Insert]

Your product now has these attributes (and the relative prices) "bound" to it.

It is also possible to "Price Products By Attribute", and if you choose this method, then you will set up that product with a ZERO price originally (done when you ADD the product for the first time), and in the ADD A PRODUCT screen, you will select the radio button that says "Product is priced by attribute".

When you then configure your option values, your base product has a ZERO price, so you will then give a value of $100 (100.0000) to your one-year subscription and $200 (200.0000) to your two-year subscription option values.
