I have a old web site that has very high Google ranking , how can I redirect to my zen cart without jeopardizing my search engine ranking?

Re: Redirectlng from old site to new?

What is the old website doing? Is is still serving a purpose? Could it be replaced by Zen Cart or have Zen Cart incorporated into it?

Do you transfer the domain as well?

Yes, old site is highly ranked, not removing it, just want to re-direct traffic to Zen site

If you DO transfer the domain along with the site, then it's not a problem since I believe Google rank the page (using its url), not the server.

If you do not move the domain, you may need to use .htaccess and do a permanent redirection on all pages from the old server to the new one. This may not guarantee page rank at first tho.

Re: Redirectlng from old site to new?

Thanks. I may not want to risk it as my old/original site is ranked top 10 for a number is tier one keywords. I have "manual links" such as notes on the site "We have moved" but I think many visitors ignore it.
