Zone More Specific Than a US State

Hi.

Can I make a Zone smaller than a US state? I'd like to make a zone with a smaller area like, say, one or more zip codes. Customers ordering from that zone will have a small handling fee, but no shipping.

Thanks!

Re: Zone More Specific Than a US State

So Zen Cart can't do it? Are there any free zone modules that might do it? My client can't spare the $200 for a module to their open source cart...

Thanks for the tip, though!

$200 ??? (Are you working in Zimbabwe dollars, perhaps?)

Conor's price for his new Advanced Shipping module is *******.

Your client will save this amount within the first 5 sales, as the proper shipping fee is more likely to be calculated properly with a module such as this.

I know Conor has spent hundreds of hours on this module, and has put in a high degree of superior expertise.

Perhaps you should approach your client and demonstrate the VALUE of this module, rather than its COST.

Apologies... I see where the $200 is calculated... Your need the Localities Mod as well...

(Still, I believe it to be worth it).

From my experience, there is almost always a way to achieve the desired result without paying. Take a look in the FAQ's under Zones. I'm sure that with a bit of diligence and assistance from the good folks here at the Zen forum you can do what you like.

Since you are thinking locally, I thought this add-on might also be good for you: Local Message. It allows shop owners to issue per-zip-code messages.

Good luck!!

fairetscape: No worries! I think the module to be very much of value, but of the small part I need ($0 shipping for local area), the cost/benefit isn't there. I'm using the stock USPS and FedEx shipping modules successfully for all my other shipping needs.

meltdown: thanks for the tip. I'll look at LocalMessage and see how I can leverage that towards my shipping challenge.

Thanks again, Zenners.

This depends on your viewpoint  "Without paying" doesn't necessarily mean "free/at no cost" Time = Money so sometimes it is better to buy in if the work has already been done than reinvent the wheel.

I bought Conor's Advanced Shipper Mod and it was worth every penny. No matter how hard I had tried I would never have achieved the flexibility and accuracy that this module gives me.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: Zone More Specific Than a US State

Brent makes a valid point... COST and VALUE are two different concepts.

When I discuss using additional website tools with my clients, I always format the discussion from a VALUE perspective, showing how much can be SAVED by investing in such tools...

These savings are not only money; but time, efficiency, reliability and professionalism. Business can be easily lost if a service appears cumbersome, clunky, inaccurate and amateurish.

Customer loyalty is enhanced when they like your business process, and trust your methods.

Re: Zone More Specific Than a US State

However, repeated commercial announcements for that pay program goes against the basic spirit of open source and Zen as I see it. A recommendation is one thing but this aggressive push for a pay product in this forum is not kosher. It is possible to do it without paying the company you are recommending. That should also be explored, especially in this environment.

Hi,

I found my name in this thread and, given its content, I felt I had to comment.

Thanks very much to those who have commented on our module, your support is greatly appreciated!

However, I have to agree with MeltDown that it isn't in the spirit of Zen to talk about the module here so I'd ask you to please refrain from doing so.

Forums like this are for unpaid open source software distributions only and not for paid open source software distributions.

Thanks,

Conor
