All My Categories & Products Have Been Deleted... HELP!

I was adding new products to the back end and the computer crashed and when i reloaded all my categories and products have been deleted. What can i do?

When you say "back end", what do you mean? Were you performing a SQL command to upload data?

I was in the admin backend adding new products.

If you look at your database tables for
products
products_description
categories
categories_description
products_to_categories

do you see your data in them?

Where are the data base tables?

When in the admin/backend if you look in the Catalog - Categories/Products section there's nothing there.

Of course, you can always reinstall the database from your last back-up.
You did back-up, right?

The database is SEPARATE from the core files.

You will need to login to your host admin account on your server, then use the MySQL function there to access your database.

On a server with C-Panel, this is usually via a program called phpMyAdmin.

Anyone know what it means?

It means you're trying to insert data which already exists. What are you attempting to do, an entire import? You haven't answered Ajeh's question.

Hi! I help out with DPM's site and am trying to sort the problem for...

If you check https://www.dpmautostyling.co.uk you can the problem - the categories are missing. Apparently DPM was in the middle of updating some stuff in the admin and suffered a crash and that is the result. I thought a simple dbase restore would cure the problem but when trying to restore that sql message is encountered. Drop tables and create table are both present in the sql backup.

@ ajeh - yes those tables are all present and contain data
@ bigbadboy - yes daily updates are in place. The sql used was from the last available backup.

In addition when I checked the dbase several tables were in need of repair. These now all report as being OK.

Have you checked this backup to make sure everything is there as it should be? You could try manually dropping the tables prior to importing.

When in the Admin/Backend and looking at products view, all the products are still there and you can click on them as if you were going to edit them but they're just not in the Catalog-Categories/Products area and hence not up on the site.

I'm going crazy!

Looks like a bad file for the side box/categories listing...

Might try switching to the classic template and if your edits have been to override files ONLY this might be a simple template issue

I've just checked the template and no joy. All edits have been made to override files so answer must lie elsewhere. Thanks for the suggestion though :)

Could you perhaps check your database via phpMyAdmin and see if you have the tables:
products
products_description
categories
categories_description
products_to_categories

and that they all have data in them and they appear to balance out ...

This means you have 1 Product record in the products and products_description tables ...

And that you have 1 Category record in the categories and categories_description tables ...

There should then be records in the products_to_categories that match up to each product and category ...

Next, check the products table and see if all of the products each have a value other than 0 in the master_categories_id field ...

If the records all match up and the master_categories_id values are 0, then this just needs to be fixed ...

If the master_categories_id are all of a value other than 0 then this could be another issue ... such as bad files ...

Switching to the Classic Template is a good way to tell if this is a template issue causing this ...

If the data in the database appears bad, then having a backup that you can restore would be helpful ...

But so far, there really isn't enough information here to determin the exact nature of the problem ...

Thanks for the advice! I restored the tables from the backup and the products/categories are now visible and bowsable. However, the images are not showiing :(

The images do not show in the default or classic templates. Any ideas? Is there a dbase table I should be checking?

Well this has happened again and once again i'm so annoyed! All i was doing was adding new products to the shop in the admin/backend and again the admin froze and when i refreshed all the products and categories have gone, they're not even in the viewed items this time either.

Is it possible for someone to talk me through what to do to restore a backup from the night before this happened?

I can see a list of them in the dump section in my SmartFTP but not really know what to do.

Any help would be gratefully receieved.

some tables have record and some do not. what is the cause of this and does anyone know how to repair the tables?, can I just click on the tables and click repair?

The ZC Admin Version page says: Database Data Size: 4,507 kB
The phpMyAdmin Say: Total Size 5.2 MiB
When I tried to download the database in phpMyAdmin it downloaded as 1,750 kB

the first site I installed on a new server I was removing the example categories from a template and deleted a category and I got an error:

I saw this again when I tried to change the width of the left had side box column and I got the above error and the width disappeared (e.g. 190px) and I entered it again and it was fine.
I contacted godaddy and reported the error and they asked for a screenshot, and as I could not reproduce the problem a few days later I thought it was fine.

Now on another site I setup for someone, the administrator deleted one product and hundreds of the products she added over the last month got deleted

This does not make a lot of sense to have:

what do you see on the products table?

You can try the repair on the tables, to see if this fixes the record count ...

When you say the say 0 records but there is data, do you mean if you browse them that you see data despite the 0 records being listed?

It does not allow me to browse the table (the browse button has no link), and when I download the database the products_description has only a Table structure. But the phpMyAdmin says the database has a size and overhead of 3.2MiB. I am not a phpMyAdmin expert and I dont know why it say it has 3.2Mib when this does not come in the database when I download it.

I am scared to click the repair table button as it may or may not delete anything that is there, and because it does not download I have no backup... I will try soon, maybe after contacting the host again; who has not provided any answers yet and whos says they dont think it is a problem with their hosting but maybe something to do with zencart /the way I have installed it, but this problem has not been seen before except for on this server .
