Product Image - No Image picture

I am having a problem. I cant get this to work.

I am just trying to get a default picture when none is present.

I set up the following.

Product Image - No Image Status
Use automatic No Image when none is added to product
0= off
1= On

I Set it to 1

Product Image - No Image picture
Use automatic No Image when none is added to product
Default = no_picture.gif

I made my file name "no_picture.gif" and uploaded it to
public_html/images/

Yet it is not working

Re: Product Image - No Image picture

The no_picture.gif image only displays if no image is defined for a product. (ie: you never supplied an image name for the product or you removed the image from the product via the admin).

If you have defined an image (ie: when entering product details in the admin) but the image filename is bad or no longer exists, then your browser will just display a broken image or nothing at all (depending on the browser).

If you have any image managing tools installed they may handle things differently.

If that doesn't answer your question, provide a link to a page where you're having a problem.

Re: Product Image - No Image picture

What I am working on is a huge list from a vendor.
16000 products.
I am only making a "Guess" what the image name is.
so if the product ID is abc123 I said to use abc123.jpg

That being said. I now know why there is no image being shown.
Is there anyway to make a image shown in my case?

Re: Product Image - No Image picture

You'd have to rewrite the zen_image function to check whether the image file exists, and if not, do something else.

Re: Product Image - No Image picture

I would not know how to do that...

But here is what I am thinking of doing. I will do a search for a program that can read a directly of files, then put the results in a list.

Then I can do a compare against my database to check off all the ones that do exist. This then will eliminate all the ones that I do have files for and then I can mark off the ones that don't.

This I can do in excel using a vlookup function. The Reading of the directory of files is another issue. I'll do a search and see what I come up with and I will post the results.

Re: Product Image - No Image picture

As answered when I put the question in Yahoo Answers.

Can I get a listing of file names in a directory to go to a excel sheet ?

Here is what I am trying to do....

I am trying to mass list products to my website.
The vendor provided alot but not all of the images.
The images missing will be "Coming Soon"
How I figure out what the image name is, is by using the item
name, such as item abc123 is abc123.jpg
My problem is when they have a item abc123 but no image
exists. So what I want to figure out is, Get a listing of all the
images in a directory. I can match them up in excel. Then when the ones that dont match up with an image... Then I can either take the product out or put a image like a big star and says coming soon.

Thanks in advance.

You can just do a DIR > x.txt, load the x.txt file into Excel and format it the way you like. Then copy that column and paste it into the sheet you're working with.
