Warning: main and fatal error when installing

I'm ready to scream!
I bought the zencart manual to install it on my computer. We're installing locally and using example.com. So, I've very carefully followed each instruction, and now in the middle of the installation, I'm getting these error messages and I don't know what they mean or how to fix them. I've been reading through the other threads and I'm not finding any answers. IF someone knows, please help me. I'm sure it's something simple, and I'm just somehow not doing it.

Were you setting up an override before this happened?

no. Somehow the files I needed weren't in the folder. After I added the files it was magically fixed. I hope this helps anyone else that might get confused. Thanks for taking time to reply. I was at my whit's end!!!

Same thing happened to me. I uploaded folders and files were omitted and I got something like 20 warning messages.
Glad to here that you worked it out.

The number one cause of problems during installation is failed or incomplete FTP uploads ... which can be caused by timeouts or delays from your internet connection, resulting in missing files on your server. Using a reliable FTP program is your best guard against that happening. FileZilla is generally viewed as trustworthy (unlike SmartFTP and cuteFTP etc).

I've always had good luck with SmartFTP.

Something that makes a lot of sense to me is this - if your host's control panel's file manager has an 'Extract' option, upload the Zencart zip file, and extract it there. I've never had a corrupted file this way, and it's much faster.
