Hi there im looking to make the define_main_page wider.
my site is https://www.perlui.co.uk and I want to cut down the grey on the sides of the site to make the site bigger.

That section of code is in your stylesheet. It will not make the grey smaller, because the grey is the size of the window you have open, but it will make the cart wider, so you will see less of the grey... Be advised that it may also make your header image repeat itself, so make sure you check the codes on that as well... That should also be in your stylesheet...

which stylesheet?

includes/templates/classic/css/stylesheet.css as is this the stylesheet you are using.
You should have set up a custom template and used proper overrides. If you don't you will lose all of your styling when you upgrade.
