How to group multiple products together?

Hi there, this is my first question, and I've gotten a lot of help around the forums already. I'll try to be clear and concise.

I am trying to group multiple products together. Something like related products.

For example, a Bedroom set that comes with the Bed, Dresser 1, and Dresser 2. I would like to somehow be able to group these together.

This is the site: http://www.bestbuy-furniture.com/

If you look at a product listing here: http://www.bestbuy-furniture.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=5

You will see how convenient it is to add multiple products to your cart. Is there any way of doing something similar but without having to make a category for every single product?

I tried using sub categories, but it was far too tedious and messy.

Any help or suggestion of a mod would be greatly appreciated!

Re: How to group multiple products together?

You may wish to look into the Cross Sell Add-on for this and see if that can help you in matching products together ...

Re: How to group multiple products together?

Thanks for your suggestions. I resorted to setting up sub categories for each product, do you see issues with this method.. Here is an example:

This is a Sub Category:

http://www.bestbuy-furniture.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_20

Here it contains all the pieces to the furniture set. I guess it does the job. Was just annoying to re-do the structure of things.

Thanks again!

Re: How to group multiple products together?

Devnut,

I just sent you a PM on this. I just checked out the last link you posted. How did you do that? That is exactly what I am looking to do but with jewelry. Have been driving myself nutz trying to figure it out so I can display a necklace and then below all the parts to buy with qty box and add to cart button.

It is perfect. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Re: How to group multiple products together?

Devnut,

I'm trying to do something similar. In my case the sub-categories would be lunch combos, and inside of them - products e.g. sandwiches (costomizable though attributes), drinks, etc.

I would appreciate any hint as to how to re-organise the system in order to achieve this.

Cheers!

Hey Dantes,
I never did hear back from Devnut and the sub catagory thing didn't work for me. I ended up purchasing a mod from Flipside (you can just search for his name in these forums ro go to http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/member.php?u=5596 to contact him). It is awesome!!! He calls it a Product Bundle. Totally worth it every penny!!! Check it out at http://cowspotbeads.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_bundle_info&cPath=68_182&products_id=705

Re: How to group multiple products together?

Thanks cowspot,

I might check it out. However, I have to do some further modifications to zen-cart for my project so a ready mod might not exactly be what I need.

Cheers
