Free shipping within the UK Only

Could someone explain how to set it up so only international customers are charged for postage and packaging.

Yep, you need to install the Zone Rates module.

For Zone 1 Countries, put in "GB"
For Zone 1 Shipping Table, put in "10000:0"

For Zone 2 Countries, put in "00"
For Zone 2 Shipping Table, put in "5:6.99,10000:10.99"

I think 00 acts as a wildcard here.
Any countries other than GB should be treated as Zone 2.

sorry, how do i install a zone rates module

Just enable it in Admin>Modules>Shipping

ok found it, now do i need to disable the other shipping modules running? when i installed the zone rates one i got this error at the top of the page

The sort order is simply which order they appear in on the site pages. You can change each module's sort order by clicking the Edit button on the right. You should disable any shipping modules which you don't intend on using. For the ones that you do want, make sure they have a unique sort value.
