Yes, I need it too. My current terrible clunky DOS-Days shopping cart can do it. So my entire store is set up to select attributes AND quantity at the same time. So I'm stuck already, because I really do need to continue doing it that way. I might as well quit for now. I hope that when you say "sometime this year", I hope you mean it. :D

Just replying with a "me too" so I can add the notification for future post...

Any idea when its coming out? Any other solutions?

It's May 2009 now! Any good news? Did I miss something?

Another request for this one. I've not required this before but now that I do, I am pretty surprised it hasn't been built in, it's quite an important one!

One of the Add-on's is able to do this. I've used it a lot, and it works very well. I believe it's called Product Attributes Grid. I haven't had any problems with this Add-on. And I don't know what I would do without it.
Zen Follower
Oh wait, no. You're talking about displaying the In-Stock Quantity next to each attribute. I'm talking about the customer being able to specify how many of each "attribute" they want to buy. The Product Attributes Grid puts a quantity box next to each attribute, so the customer can enter how many of each "attribute" they want to buy. Such as 1 of pink and 3 of green.
YES, it would be nice to have more controls and features for Attributes. I don't want to display the quantity, but I wish I could enter a quantity for each attribute. I've run into this problem a lot. I sell lots of doll shoes. I can enter an overall quantity for ITEM A, but I can't specify how many of each color. Maybe I have 30 of pink and 75 of hot pink, which is a typical scenario in my shop. It would be immensely helpful to be able to specify how many of each is in stock.
I don't like to display quantities on the front end. But I would like to have some control on the back end so when something is sold out, they can't order it. As it is, I'm constantly giving small refunds for out of stock items.

This is an important feature thats causing alot of people to ditch zencart for other carts like Magento! We love zencart but this feature is killing the zencart platform!

I do love ZenCart a whole lot. I've been using it for a year now and it's really nice to work with.

I need this too. I have customers who are ordering too many of a certain color, more than I have in stock of that color, but I have no way of showing how many of that certain color I have in stock. Any news on this?

It sounds to me as if you need the Stock By Attributes module (http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=310) rather than an attribute quantity box.

I posted this in another section before finding this thread - it sounds like the same problem a lot of people have. Is there a reliable solution before any new release??
I installed the Stock by Attribute' module by Kuore ok and can now add stock attributes.
It has thrown one further question however.
The (sub) Category (and page) shows eg 6 items in stock AS A WHOLE, with the individual ones set internally as for eg
Age 2 = 2 items
Age 4 = 3 items
Age 5 = 0 items
Age 7 = 1 Item
Fine so far.....
However - if the customer selects Age 5 they wont know it is out of stock until they see it in the basket with *** against it and a comment it will be placed on backorder....they then have to remove or pay for it.
Is there any way:
a) an 'out of stock' message can be determined/displayed BEFORE it reaches the basket?
or
b) set the stock quantity to show against the drop down list ages so at least a customer can see there is zero quantity against an age range?
thanks

crankyjim:
Hello all.
The site in question is my wife's site. I did the custom coding necessary to display the stock on hand.
There is no module available that I am aware of that replicates this functionality.
For those of you technically minded, it is really just a matter of filling two multi-dimensional arrays and looping through them to write out the html required for the table.
The first array is filled with the attribute type names and becomes the column heading contents.
The second array is filled with the attribute value names and includes the quantity as a final element within each array row.
The most difficult part of this was calculating the correct nested loops to ensure that we would always have only 3 "columns" of information and it would be limited to a maximum of 30 items per "column".
The display itself is rendered as an html table and is styled using css.
Hope this helps get you started.

Hey crankyjim - are you still around? I am going to modify the 'Stock By Attributes' mod to solve this problem (well, I'm going to give it a go!!). It sure does sound like it would be helpful to have a look at your code... would you mind?
Not sure when the next release of Zen Cart is planned, or if there are guidelines for making mods compatible with future versions? If so, now would be a great time to find out, so I don't have to re-write everything in 6 weeks...!
Cheers,
Pat

Hey guys
In case you haven't noticed, you can install 2 add-ons that make this work quite easily, Stock By Attributes html http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&cPath=40_47&products_id=310 and also Product Attribute Grid ```html
http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=876

After having a few chats with the gentleman that hosts our website. He wrote coding in it for us to show stock by attribute in this type of grid
It splits stuff by color and size and then shows the quantity you have in the box with it as well as an input box for qty wanted to buy. I'm sure this could work for anything with attributes like shirts, clothing etc.
If you need more help than the coding you can see from the page source send me a msg and I can forward his name and ways to get in touch with him.

Hello,
I'm a new member! WOOT! I've been a long time user of Zen Cart. I played around with it a lot before but never got around opening a shop. Now, I have found a business that I love. And I would love to have Attribute Quantities shown as well. I can pay if needed!
