Remove some elements from my product page and product listing page

Im trying to remove some elements from my product page and product listing page.

I want to remove the ‘filter results by’ menu and drop down box.
I also want to remove one of the ‘add selected products to cart’ buttons, but not both.

I want to remove the model name, how many units in stock, ‘write a review’ and ‘tell a friend’ button, and also the ‘This product was added to our catalog on......’.

I want to remove the ‘Gem Setting Kit’ link to the category of the product, as this category only has one product. I would like to leave that link on my other products page as there are multiple products in each category.

I know that some items you can remove from the admin, some with CSS and some you have to remove from the php. How do you find out which item needs which? Ive tired using the Admin/ Tools/ Developer Tool Kit but without much success.
