SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

I have Zencart installed and working but then Created a SSL folder and installed in there too so I can take Goole Checkout and Nochex payments.
Firstly I have wiped all of my database as I have linked both websites to the same database and done a fresh install on my SSL (So please beware if you are doing the same).
The problems/questions I have are as follows (Sorry but I have a few).

I cannot log into admin on the SSL website (Times out and page doesn't load)
https://vault1.secured-url.com/CandleWithCare/securesite/

Once I sort the above out, do I have to change all of the settings to be an exact match to the "Normal website"?

As I have installed, supertracker MOD, Google Base feeder, Paypal IPN etc do I need to run the SQL patches again to update my database?

Any help would be appreciated as I am very close to ditching Zencart altogether :frusty:

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

OK I'll start again.
I have my website https://www.candlewithcare.co.uk currently running Zencart 1.3.8.
I am trying to set up SSL for payments with the same hosting company(Fasthosts).
They have given me a SSL domain called https://vault1.secured-url.com/candlewithcare
I have created a folder in this called securesite and uploaded an untouched version of Zencart 1.3.8
When I linked it to my existing database It has wiped that database so I have rebuilt the database again.
However I cannot get the admin page on the SSL site to load so I can get into it.
I just get the message "Hello thank you for loading Zencart"
I dont want to do anything that will wipe my database as I currently cannot back it up....any suggestions?

https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=14
SSL FAQ at url above, including shared SSL, which from
url you have quoted, looks like what Fasthosts have
issued...
Not used shared ssl myself, because purchasing own
SSL Certificates are very reasonably priced these days,
and save lots of potential errors, as you are now
experiencing.
Your host should be able to give advice re their shared
SSL and how to implement.

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

I have read that link previously thanks for the heads up.
If I'm reading it correctly I need to get the zencart running properly on the shared SSL site too before I enable the SSL support in zencart?
This is where I'm struggling as I cannot get zencart to run on my SSL site.

Did you alter BOTH zencart config files to reflect using shared SSL,
as per instructions given in FAQ url quoted?

If you don't alter both config files, it will never work correctly.

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

OK, I understand what you are saying but the instructions say
Once you've had your hosting company install your SSL certificate, and you have confirmed that going to "https://your_site.com" actually works without an error, you can turn on SSL support in Zen Cart using the following information:
When I go to https://vault1.secured-url.com/Candlewithcare/securesite/ it isn't working correctly.
There are no images (All held on the "standard website"), nothing is working correctly.
Don't I need to sort this out first?

Images are not showing because config files do not have correct urls
inserted.

Suggest you seek help from webhost as those configure.php
files are nothing like how they should be as per FAQ tutorial
quoted earlier.

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

Seems other Fasthost users with zencart, also have problems with how
they configure their SSL Cert Options.. i.e.

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

This is on Fasthosts support site for Os commerce

OSCommerce installation
OSCommerce is a popular PHP ecommerce system.

Our Windows servers and recent Linux servers run PHP with the register_globals setting switched off. By default, OSCommerce requires that register_globals be switched on.

To run OSCommerce on your Fasthosts account, you may need to either:

* use ZenCart, which is a more recently developed derivative of OSCommerce and does not require register_globals to be switched on
* or follow the instructions below to modify OSCommerce to run with register_globals switched off.

Install OSCommerce with Fasthosts
Before following these steps, you should:

* add shared SSL space to your hosting
* install OSCommerce on both your standard web space and your shared SSL space.

Shared SSL space is hosted on Windows servers.

Step 1: Download the OSCommerce patch that allows it to run with register_globals switched off and follow the instructions to apply it your OSCommerce installation:

* oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2097/category,all/search,register_global

Note: You should always thoroughly test third-party software before putting it live on your website.

Step 2: Edit includes\configure.php and add the following line to the end of the file:

define('WARN_CONFIG_WRITEABLE','false');

Step 3: OSCommerce does not properly secure its own administration interface when installed on Windows servers. A third-party patch will help you to improve the security of the admin directory:

* oscommerce.com/community/contributions,1174

The OS commerce patch doesn't specify Zencart or any other make but alters the following files.

.../catalog/install/includes/application.php
.../catalog/includes/application_top.php
.../catalog/include/classes/order.php
.../catalog/includes/functions/general.php
.../catalog/includes/functions/gzip_compression.php
.../catalog/includes/functions/sessions.php
.../catalog/includes/languages/english/password_forgotten.php
.../catalog/includes/languages/espanol/password_forgotten.php
.../catalog/includes/languages/german/password_forgotten.php

Has anyone tried doing this?

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

I have spoken to Fasthosts support and have got the following message

*I can confirm that you appear to have uploaded several source files for this site and not just the index page. Other files uploaded to this folder display without issue when accessing them directly by URL and there do not appear to be any permissions issues on this folder.

We would recommend that you refer to the provider of this particular application as it appears that this is not setup correctly or is not linking your homepage to the other pages on your site correctly.*

So does this mean that it's something to do with the configure files in Admin/includes and includes folders?

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

As Misty said, Fasthosts has a reputation of being unable to run SSL well.

My suggestion, while perhaps sounding opinionated: get a real host. You'll have less hassles that way.
How many days have been wasted on this?
