SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

I currently pay Fasthosts £50 PM as I host a few other sites too, forums etc...
They have sent me the following
We do have customers who use ZenCart on our system, but I am not sure if they use the SSL option. Unfortunately it is not possible to install custom SSL certificates on our shared servers because of the way they are set up, each certificate requires a separate IP address and we cannot assign one to each domain on our system. You could investigate the possibility of a dedicated server if you wanted SSL on the domain name itself.

I can get this for the same cost and hopefully not have major issues regarding moving all of my websites but what do you think??
I'm after a second opinion basically

currently pay Fasthosts £50 PM
and they cannot give/offer you dedicated IP so you can install
your own SSL Cert..

Run quickly to the recommended zencart hosts link, top of this

I know what you're saying but I have alot of other websites all under the same host.
I can move them all onto a dedicated server which will have a dedicated IP and my own SSL. for the same price.
Has anyone else givin this a go?

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

Just for information if anyone searches and gets this thread.

Fasthosts say the SSL will work if you have your own dedicated server (£50 PM upwards)
I am currently going to continue trading WITHOUT the SSL cert and see how it goes. I'm getting hits and sales so who knows.
If it takes off then I will be trying the dedicated server option and I'll post my results back on this thread.

Thanks all for your input.

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

I have now switched hosting to TerraNetwork (Yay!:clap:) and they installed Zencart for me. I have copied my updated version over and tested it thoroughly before I transferred my domain away from fasthosts :frusty:. I have also added the Reward Points Mod and agin tested it before going live.
I have now transferred my domain to TerraNetwork (In last 24hrs) and the Google checkout MOD is causing a few issues.
If I set it to work, the whole of the right hand boxes disappear from the site and there is no Google checkout button on screen.
If I set google payment to false, the column reappears.
At first I though it was a GC problem, but it did work before the domain transferred across.
The only thing that has changed is TerraNetwork altered my Config files (Includes & Admin Includes).

Admin/Includes/Configure
define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://www.candlewithcare.co.uk');
define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://stargate.terrassl.net/candlewithcare.co.uk');
define('HTTP_CATALOG_SERVER', 'http://www.candlewithcare.co.uk');
define('HTTPS_CATALOG_SERVER', 'https://stargate.terrassl.net/candlewithcare.co.uk');

// Use secure webserver for catalog module and/or admin areas?
define('ENABLE_SSL_CATALOG', 'true');
define('ENABLE_SSL_ADMIN', 'true');

Includes/configure
define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://www.candlewithcare.co.uk');
define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://stargate.terrassl.net/candlewithcare.co.uk');

My question is, is this an SSL problem or do you think it is Google need repointing to the new hosting area (Ie it will sort itself out in next 48hrs?)

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

The only other thing I can think of is the Admin folder was called "Admin" with my old hosts (Fasthosts) but the Admin folder on the New host is called "Adminarea".
I have searched through the Developers Toolkit for /admin and found a few instances where /admin is mentioned but I don't think this is the issue.

One other thing to note is if I make any changes in the sort order of payments in the payments module, nothing changes on the site itself?

TerraNetwork is recommended zencart host..have you
requested help/support from them if their admin setup is different to your previous host?

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

Not yet I haven't, I thought maybe I was missing something simple.
It's just odd how it worked before the domain changed over but not now. Terra changed something in the config files for when the site went live.

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

I have and this is their reply.

I have double-checked the configure.php files, checked the server zone files for your domain, and checked the error log - and nothing untoward shows in any of them.

Whatever problem you have is with the coding of your website and I would recommend that you specifically look at the Google Checkout module itself and its implementation.

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

first totally uninstall the google checkout mod in the admin

then re-install it.,

if server is running php as cgi then you need to follow the setup for that procedure...

as long as there is an ssl ( dedicated or shared ) then you will be fine....

also the ssl would not have an effect on the layout like that...

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

I will try that, the only other thing I can think of is I have installed reward points full suite MOD and in there is a googlecheckout.php file included in this download.
This is NOT in the googlecheckout folder but in the html folder that holds the folders that run zencart (Ie admin, includes, docs etc)
I'm wondering if this may be causing the issue (although googlecheckout uses the gcheckout.php file in the GC folder)

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

I have uninstalled and reinstalled through the Admin/Payment module and still the same thing is happening.
I have no idea what you mean by the server running PHP as CGI, do I check this in Admin/tools/server information?

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

PHP does run as a CGI on our servers, but that has never caused any problems with any Zen Cart site.

I should point out that one of the problems here was a renamed Google Checkout function file in the extra_functions folder which was called in as well as the newly edited file and caused a PHP Fatal Error.

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

Vger that post is misleading.
I had the problem, no-one was helping, so I tried to reupload all the google checkout files to make sure none of them were corrupted.
I then accidently put one in the wron place which then caused the PHP fatal error.
TerraNetwork thankfully helped me out and reloaded a previous backup that cleared this error but I still have this Google Checkout problem.

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

I have now tried the following.

  1. I have opened in my web-browser the googlecheckout/responsehandler.php file, I then get asked for a username & password (A user name and password are being requested by http://www.candlewithcare.co.uk. The site says: "Google checkout Basic Authentication")
    I have tried every possible user name & password I can imagine - Including my Google merchant ID & key and it will not open.

  2. I have looked at the .HTaccess file in Googlecheckout/logs folder and found this

$Id: .htaccess 2856 2007-06-08 00:42:19Z Ropu $

This is used with Apache WebServers

The following blocks direct HTTP requests in this directory recursively

This will prevent access to logs from the web

<Files *.log>
Order Deny,Allow
Deny from all
Allow from localhost
</Files>

    1.That is correct...you are NOT meant to enter username and
    password.
  1. Test in sandbox mode first..SSL not required.
    then
  2. Test in Live mode...SSL cert approved by Googlecheckout
    is required.

Re: SSL Installation problem - wiped my database

Update
I have just installed Paypal Express Checkout instead of using the Paypal IPN and the google checkout button is now appearing in the shopping cart.
However.....it only appears in any products I have added since the move from my old hosting company.
These products are virtual (Gift vouchers) and have no shipping.
I have added a new test item with a weight and no checkout button.
It now looks to me like it could be a shipping configuration issue within Google Checkout.
