Confused - why two credit cards, one w/o info ?

I've looked through the forums but I'm still confused about setting up my credit card (Authorize.net) module.

First, I had two credit card radio buttons -- the first with no fields (and no backend process to speak of), and the second with all the right fields and what appears to be authorization. (Although I'm thinking -- after reading these forums -- that I need to check the Authorize site.)

I had five modules active: Authorize.net (SIM), Credit Card (Offline), Zen freecharger, moneyorder, and purchaseorder, and ZC 1.3.8a.

Then I disabled cc (offline) -- which made my second set (with fields) disappear -- and freecharger -- which didn't seem to have any affect.

So now, I have no credit card fields and am never asked for any credit card info.

ZC seems to have accepted all my Auth.net info and the site is giving me the alert that it is in testing mode, so I think I have a good connection to Auth.net. And so why are there no fields??

Thanks,
Tim

Re: Confused - why two credit cards, one w/o info ?

If you have your SIM module in "offsite" mode, you won't be offered the option of entering CC details, because it'll take your customers to the authorize.net site to collect payment. This is something you only want to do if you refused to get your own SSL certificate for your site.

If you have an SSL certificate protecting your site, you're better off using the AIM module instead, as it's a more seamless experience for your customers, since they will enter their payment details directly on your site.

Oh, and you probably want to re-enable the freecharger module since it's required in order to checkout if a customer's purchase ends up being 'free' for any reason.

Re: Confused - why two credit cards, one w/o info ?

Thanks. Yeah, the choice to get an SSL certificate is not mine, but rather my client's -- who is trying to do everything on the cheap. (I may succeed in convincing him, nonetheless.)

But still, why are there two "Credit Card" radio buttons? BTW, the setting with the fields only works with Authorize.net auth codes. I'm guessing this is a good thing -- the card is getting "approved" -- but I still don't see anything on the Authorize.net end.

I'm not following your question about 2 radio buttons, nor your comment about auth codes.

Re: Confused - why two credit cards, one w/o info ?

Thanks for the quick reply. Here is a screen shot of the payment options:

Why are there two "Credit Card" options? One without fields?

BTW, I'm using default sort order here (all set to "0"). Also, BTW, I have re-enabled freecharger and cc (offline), so my list of enabled modules is what I first stated in this thread.

Nevermind about Auth.net comments.

Thanks,
Tim

Re: Confused - why two credit cards, one w/o info ?

The first one is your Authorize.net SIM module, in offsite mode.
The second is your Offline Credit Card module.

Re: Confused - why two credit cards, one w/o info ?

Ah, OK, I think I'm beginning to understand.

So the text I will see in testing mode is going to be something like this?:

The following errors have occurred.
(13) The merchant login ID or password is invalid or the account is inactive.

And when I put the cart into production mode, then the SIM will take me to Authorize.net for the final step (putting in CC info)? Correct?

Thanks,
Tim

Re: Confused - why two credit cards, one w/o info ?

The error you mentioned is something you'll receive whether in testing mode or production ... if you've entered invalid merchant details.

And, whether in testing mode or production mode, the SIM module will take you to the authorize.net site when you click Confirm at the end of checkout.

Great info. Thanks! I spent a lot of time frustrated today that I wasn't sure whether my tests were doing anything.

Re: Confused - why two credit cards, one w/o info ?

I got my module working with Authorize.net. But I have one final question:

The Auth.net email says my transaction (auth & capture) was approved (with dummy card number and a real one), but I'm getting returned to the payment types screen in ZenCart with an error saying "There has been an error processing your credit card. Please try again."

Is this a result of being in test mode?

Thanks,
Tim

Re: Confused - why two credit cards, one w/o info ?

That's hard to tell.

SIM is a bear to troubleshoot. I always recommend AIM because I find it much more reliable because the communication is controlled from within Zen Cart and doesn't rely on a completed return from another site.

Turn on debug logging inside the SIM module and post the data it reports after you do another transaction.

I doubt it's tied directly to test mode. Why don't you take it out of test mode and test a live transaction? I think I'm going to take out the test modes from all the modules in the future ... they give a false sense of security, because a real transaction in live mode is a far more reliable and real-world "test".

Re: Confused - why two credit cards, one w/o info ?

I agree about taking out the test mode -- good idea. Since Auth.net has it's testing mode, it just creates a test matrix where none should exist. And for newbies like me makes it more confusing. (Although I'm so much less confused after today! Thanks!)

After looking at all your threads re Auth AIM, I sure do wish I could (easily) do it. The host does shared SSL, but at the cost of making the user account name public! Bad idea. Tech support made it seem there was no other way. I don't believe it, but I'll have to wait for a salesperson to get back to me. (Changing hosts is not an alternative.)

So I'll check the logs. And start looking for threads on a good, inexpensive SSL CRT -- in case it is possible at this host.

Thanks again for all your help!

You could try this one, which supports the Zen Cart project if you buy there: https://www.securepaynet.net/gdshop/ssl/ssl.asp?prog_id=Zen_Ventures&ci=1789

Re: Confused - why two credit cards, one w/o info ?

Just a follow-up. Hope this is helpful to someone.

My Authorize SIM didn't start working until I put both ZenCart and Authorize into Production mode.

But my first tests resulted in errors within ZenCart -- I'd get sent back to the checkout page with a messagestack error, and ZenCart (strangely) would log out my account. (This happened on a client PC that also logged people out when going to the home page, so this could have been an error with just that client's PC or browser config.) The Authorize.net transaction was APPROVED, however.

With a little hunting, I found this thread http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84176

I didn't realize that the MD5 was not the hash itself but rather the string to generate the hash. Thus, if your MD5 string in Authorize.net is "happyhappy", then you must enter "happyhappy" in the SIM ZenCart payment module as well.

Re: Confused - why two credit cards, one w/o info ?

I need help with the Zen cart payment module. I am using only Authorize.net AIM module as I have SS7 installed on my website. The SIM module has been disabled from payment options and AIM is that only one enabled however I am still getting two credit card payment option.

There are two payment options with the following

Radio button #1
Card Holder Name----
Credit Card Number
Expiration date

Radio button#2
Card Holder Name----
Credit Card Number
Expiration date
CVV number

This is frustrating and i hope some can shed me some light. Thanks.

Use the "remove" not just disable, on ALL modules you are not going to use. Be sure to remove the Offline CC module.

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.
