Showcase mode for a Single Category ?

Can it be done ? Any input is appreciated.

Is it always going to be a showcase? If so, then use the a different product type just for that category.

We carry a line of products that we cannot sell online. However we want to show our customers that we have the products on the website and they are available through the brick and mortar store and via phone order. We do not want this specific category to be able to place website orders.

Would it be possible for a customer to place a order online (i.e. add items to cart) but have to phone in the Credit card number only for 1 category of products ?

What about modifying the Check/Money Order module to suit this purpose?

You might be able to force the use of a particular payment system using the logic from this thread, although it is focused primarily on forcing a certain shipping module depending on what items are placed in the cart from which categories.

How would I go about getting a developer to make a module for this ?
