How to FIX Easy Populate Error: No model field in record

I came across an issue when I tried to import products to my Zen Cart install using the Easy Populate module that seems to be fairly common.

When importing your file you receive this error:

No model field in record. This line was not imported

In my case, the problem was with Excel. Excel was adding a bunch of extra tabs at the end of each row for some reason.

The fix that worked for me was to copy ONLY the columns and rows that contain the data, paste that data to a new spreadsheet, and re-export as a tab-delimited text file. This will remove all extra tabs from your file and allow you to import the file into Zen Cart using the Easy Populate module.

Hope this helps others with the same problem!

Re: How to FIX Easy Populate Error: No model field in record

Thanks for this temp fix.

I'm on a mac using NeoOffice and that software seems to add stuff to the end of the csv sheet too, every time you close and re-open. Very frustrating. I wonder why.

Anyone know a permanent fix to this?

Re: How to FIX Easy Populate Error: No model field in record

I am using Open Office and the method above but I'm still getting the error. Even with every item having a number. Anybody got any other ideas?

Re: How to FIX Easy Populate Error: No model field in record

Have you tried EP4, which was designed for v1.5.x ?

Re: How to FIX Easy Populate Error: No model field in record

Hi, thanks for replying. Just tried it with EP4 and still no luck. Clearly there is something I'm missing.

Re: How to FIX Easy Populate Error: No model field in record

I am currently using ZC 1.5.4 and Easy Populate 4
I work on Win 7 with Open Office
I used to not have any problems with easy populate, but last time I did a product import I got the "No model field in record. This line was not imported" error. I read thru the forums and did some 'tab' clean up and I got the import to work.

Now I am having the problem again and I can't seem to get it to work, even after trying a clean up and several other things.

I thought I would now try to download and EP4 CSV file from the EP4 plugin and use that CSV file as a template for the import file, in hopes that it may work better.

QUESTION: The export file does not have the EOREOR column in it. Does the import file need the EOREOR column in EP4?

Thank you for your support!

Re: How to FIX Easy Populate Error: No model field in record

The correct location to ask a queston about a plugin is in the forum related to the plugin..

Easypopulate v4's forum is here: https://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?190417-EasyPopulate-4-0-Support-Thread&highlight=easypopulate

The question and answer would serve a larger group better there than elsewhere.

I followed the instructions in the Readme.txt file and saved the CSV using comma to delimit and double quotes for text, as recommended, and the import worked. I had been using tabs as the delimiter.

Glad to see that it worked. As of EP4.0.31, tabs are not one of the standard delimiters... Might become one, but not currently so recognized.
