Moving to a new server

Hi all,

I am currently developing my Zen store using shared hosting space. Whilst it works OK it is VERY slow!!

With this in mind I am considering renting a dedicated server and have a few questions that I am hoping some of you may be able to answer please :)

1. I am thinking of a dedicated server from UK2.net - any opinions on them please?

2. I will have root level access to the server - is it going to be a huge job to transfer my Zen store across? What pointers could you give me about what files need changing re paths etc...

3. The server spec is as follows, do you think it will be suitable for Zen :

CPU : Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.0Ghz
FSB : 800Mhz
RAM : 1Gb
HDD : 80Gb
Traffic/Bandwidth : 100Mbit restricted to 10000Gb per month
Network Speed : 100Mb
Control Panel : Webmin
Root/Admin Access : Yes
Opsys : Fedora Linux

Any help would be much appreciated.

You don't say what type of shared hosting you have experienced. I started out on normal shared hosted with 1&1 and Fasthosts, but found both too slow, so moved to a Zen Cart certified host (with a mythical theme) whose servers are configured for applications such as Zen Cart.

I run a number of client sites there, as well as the (sorry, site offline) site. the latter gets 300-500 unique visitors a day and typically serves 5-8,000 page per day to them, though can peak at 20,000+.

The point is that well-configured shared hosting can handle this comfortably nd may be an alternative to a dedicated server, unless you have significantly higher volumes of traffic.
