negative stock

Hey everybody,

I have a strange problem. A client of mine sells beads online, so now and then, someone orders (for example) 5 at once.
The other day, someone ordered 3, while only 2 were in stock. The stock is now -1

In the admin>configuration>stock>allow checkout it says "false", so this customer shouldn't have been allowed to check out!
Can anyone help me fix this so it doesn't happen again?

What payment modules are you using and how busy (frequently completed orders) is your site?

I'm using no extraordinary payment modules, just the "prepay", Paypal IPN and the "zen cart free charge card" (apparently)

The store isn't real busy yet, let's say an order a week?

What kind of Product is this? Physical? Download? Virtual?

I just tried and, unfortunately, yes.
It's a physical product, the one I just tried was a watch.

I went over all the settings again.. I now see that someone (read: Client) has changed the setting at configuration>stock which allows/disallows checkout if stock levels are low.

Nope ... not a waste at all ... you have just solved one of the mysteries of the universe where something isn't working correctly that you know you set properly ... :flex:

only to discover that other cosmic forces have intervened ... and changed your settings without your knowledge ... :eek:
