HELP! upgraded, now entire site is blank

I just upgraded to 1.3.8a and now my site is blank and I get this error in the admin:

Warning Your database appears to need patching to a higher level. See Tools->Server Information to review patch levels.

The database is intact (whew) but not communicating, apparently. I contacted my host to see if they can "patch to a higher level" but no response yet.

What should I do first? Panicking over here...

You can access your admin?

I suggest you run the debug utility available in the downloads.

Hi Tatiana. This is from the tutorial:

Run /zc_install/index.php and choose "Upgrade" when prompted. (Don't select "Install", or you will overwrite your database.) (If "Upgrade" is not offered, then the installer was unable to connect to your database to confirm what version its structure is at. Check your configure.php settings.)

Thought you might have just missed this. Just follow those steps to upgrade you database.

Hope this helps.

Re: HELP! upgraded, now entire site is blank

After backing up, I did hit the upgrade database button. But then I got this weird message, after the page quickly loaded:

in:
{select admin_id, admin_name, admin_pass from admin where admin_name=xxx}

only xxx was listed my real admin login. i even reset the password and still, same screen.

Re: HELP! upgraded, now entire site is blank

Well, i didnt realize it, but even though i got those weird messages, it was updating the database from old to current version, one by one. Now they are all up to date and no more patch upgrade message.

Backing up one TABLE at a time? If so, it sounds like you might have had an error when updating the Admin table. You might take the Admin info out of your backup SQL file, executing it again. Don't know if this will help you, or not, but it's worth a shot.

Look in "includes/classes" and see if you have got a file called "class.phpbb.php" in there. If, not, you'll need to get a copy of that file.

Re: HELP! upgraded, now entire site is blank

Tat, No doubt, something went wrong somewhere. I think, if it was me, I'd use my backup to get everything back to the way it USED to be, and VERY CAREFULLY, 1 step at a time, try to upgrade again. It's more than likely just some little bitty detail you overlooked somewhere, or some little something like that. Unless DrByte or Kurio can tell you EXACTLY where that error might be coming from, or what might have happened along the way. Those guys are just the best at PHP.

I wish I could do more, but I'm more of a "hands on" kind of person. If I can see everything and have access to all the files, I can usually fix it, but not being able to see everything, I'm just lost with some of those errors like that.

Re: HELP! upgraded, now entire site is blank

If you've uploaded files to the wrong places mistakenly, and then uploaded files again, etc, then you probably have some clutter that needs to be cleaned up.
Get Em Fast is right ... it's probably best to start from fresh, since all the symptoms you've been reporting indicate that you've got errors in your PHP files and/or you're missing files and/or you've got extra files in wrong places.

You might also consider downloading a full copy of everything presently on your site and comparing it against what you were trying to upload, and looking for and fixing the differences. Here's an article on that process: http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Troubleshoot_-_Diagnosing_Obscure_Issues

GetEmFast mentioned backups ... hopefully you have a good backup of everything.

It's also wise to do a "practice" upgrade in another copy of Zen Cart in another folder+database instead of directly upgrading a "live" site. That way you don't end up with down-time due to errors you might encounter in the process.
