Weight vs volume for Aus Post

We sell glass products and send them in large cardboard cartons with lots of packing. So the weight of the parcel might be 6kg, for instance, but the deadweight, or cubic weight calculated using Australia Post's formula, might be 27kg. Within Australia we pay the 27kg charge for this parcel, but when sending overseas we only pay according to the real weight, 6kg.
But I can't see anywhere in Zen Cart where you enter the parcel dimensions or dead weight. Does the Aus Post module allow for this?

OK, OK, just read the configuration.txt that came in the download, all is now clear. But another question: we regularly send parcels over 20kg (cubic weight) via Australia Post; our Post Office does not reject them. How do we get around this with the Aust Post module?

The short answer is, you can't.

The longer answer is: Although the Australia Post shipping module does perform a check for the maximal 20kg weight, it is only to avoid needless processing on the servers. In other words, to get around this limit in the AP module itself it is a simple matter of removing the line of code that performs the check, however, all this would achieve is an 'invalid data' type message being returned by the Australia Post server (drc.edeliver.com.au) back to your store.

Cheers

Re: Weight vs volume for Aus Post

Thanks Rod. We might have another look at our packaging and carton sizes and try to keep deadweight below 20kg - seems like the answer.
